Any RnP sleepers still out there?

My LO has been sleeping in the RnP since about a week old. One reason is for reflux, but he also was always very squirmy in anything else or in bed with us. He has never been a great sleeper but now that he is finally giving us one 5-6 hour stretch at night, and the reflux is under control, I'm considering moving him to his crib. He's been consistent with this for about 2-3 weeks now. Also he's a pretty big boy, 16 lbs, and is starting to look a bit cramped in the RnP. I'm so afraid that transitioning him will make him revert back to the dark days of waking up every 2-3 hours. What do you guys think? Anyone still using the RnP? Any experience with the transition yet?

Re: Any RnP sleepers still out there?

  • We transitioned after her two month shots. It was a breeze, because she was so tired. When she started rolling a week or so ago we put her back in the RnP, because she would wake up screaming. We had to transition her back to the crib once she decided to 'sit up' in the RnP throughout the night. She is sleeping so much better. Now that I think about it, I think the RnP was the reason she was fighting sleep so much.

Ironically I just also posted about him fighting his sleep. Hmmm. Thanks for your feedback! Something to think about for sure.

  • We're still in the rock and play. I'm too scared to transition to the crib and I like her next to us. Someday we'll work on it I suppose.
  • We are still rock and playing. I put him down in his crib for a nap the other day and he was fine but slept a much shorter amount of time than he does in the rock and play.

So far when he naps in his crib he does well. But, I allow him to sleep on his tummy bc he naps so much better that way. Supervised of course! I watch the monitor like a hawk and he turns his head really well. I definitely wouldn't do that at night, though, so not sure if we would be in the same boat.
  • We transitioned two weeks ago. She did wonderfully. The first night she woke up at 1:30 and because I was sick and wanted sleep, I put her back in the RnP. The second night she was in her crib from 10p-9a! On average she does 10-7 in her crib. When she got my cold over the weekend, we put her back in the RnP so she would be inclined, but last night was back in her crib and she slept for 11 hours. I think we're one of the lucky ones though.

Wow, you have such a good sleeper! Luckyyyy! ;-)

I know what you mean. I like him close too.

This is me too. Her crib is in our office area in our room but her RnP is right next to us which I love, and I'm not ready for her to be that far yet
  • We are still in RnP as well. Mainly because her crib is not in the same room and I like her being close due to her reflux choking. I am not worried about transitioning though because she will sleep on flat surfaces as well including her crib. We will probably rearrange things soon and try bringing her crib in the bedroom and try switching because she is growing like crazy. lol

  • Still in the RNP with no plans to move soon

  • We transitioned her out of the RnP a month ago but then she got a cold. I let her sleep half the night in it because she was so congested and have continued doing so once she was better. She sleeps half in a RnP and half in a PnP.

  • We are but only bc I physically can't put him in his crib bc were between places right now. We moved all beds and cribs to our new house but we don't have heat yet so we've had to sleep on couches, PnP and RnP at our apartment. Sucks big time bc I wanted to have DS transitioned before I go back to work on Monday.

  • Still in it! Despite him allllmost outgrowing it. He's a refluxy guy and even elevating the PnP isn't enough. We are trying supervised naps in the PnP. Unfortunately it isn't going wonderfully. But! We are doing our best :)
  • My guy is still in it. I was considering moving him to his crib but then he started STTN and I'm not stupid enough to mess with an 8 hour stretch every night, so he's in that thing until his feet dangle off the ends!

Also my pediatrician recommends/pushes that the baby be in the same room with us for the first 6 months.  I'm going away for an overnight trip at the end of October and the RnP would be perfect for him to travel in if he's spending the night with grandma.  I love having him close so I really don't mind.  He does hang in his crib for about an hour a day supervised.  He doesn't always nap though.

  • I'm hoping to transition DD at the beginning of October.

I transitioned DS around 4 months old. He was getting too big for it, and when I put him in the crib, he was happy to have the space. I don't remember how long, but for maybe a week I would just put him in the RnP if he woke up in the middle of the night. Overall, the transition wasn't too bad because he was ready for it and needed the space.

I think we might try it this way to begin with, when the time comes. Thanks for the feedback.

  • Glad to hear from so many who are still jiving with the RnP, and thanks to all who posted their tips and experience with the transition!
  • We are still using it. Just posted a pic in the HDBD post with her in it. She is only 10.5 weeks and 12 lbs so she's not too big for it yet. She still wakes up at least once in the middle of the night. When she starts sleeping through the night, we will transition her to the crib.

  • Still in the RNP here and I'm scared to transition him to a flat surface.  I'm convinced I'm going to lose my awesome sleeper.  He goes down between 7:30 and 8 and on his worst nights he wakes around 3:30 for a quick bottle but a lot of nights he sleeps until 5:30 or 6.

  • 17 weeks and going strong. We don't have a crib but he'll start napping in one next week at daycare. Good luck to them!
  • Connor is still a RnP man. No plans to move him yet. Our pedi says he can sleep in it in our room until he is at least 6 months old. Then we can move him to his crib and do some modified sleep training at the same time.
