Pretty sure the rule of thumb is not to stir. I stir pretty much every time I walk into the kitchen. To redistribute juices, flip chicken etc...haha. I have to be constantly messing with my crock pot meals.
Leave it. Every time you open the lid your crock pot will lose heat and have to get back up to temp.
30 minutes! Every time you open the lid, you lose 30 minutes of cook time and you're supposed to tack it on the end. You shouldn't lift lid until food is done

i've heard 15 minutes. i don't stir unless there's a lot of meat sticking out (LOL) or if it's chicken that needs to be shredded to make BBQ (and that's in the last 30 min. or so of cooking.)
I too feel the need to stir things I put in the crock pot. It just seems like a natural thing to do but can see how it drops the temp quickly. I never thought about that. I don't use mine enough. Maybe I will this fall/winter & see if I can stop the compulsion to stir it!

Silly question? Is a crockpot the same as a pressure cooker?
No. Though I can't really put the difference into words...mainly a pressure cooker cooks like a bazillion times faster than a crockpot which is also called a slow cooker. Pressure cookers doesn't have it's own source of heat and has to be used on the stove, the crock-pot gets plugged in.

Thanks! I've never seen a crockpot... But I love stews cooked in pressure cookers!
It depends on what I am making. I'll look at it and decide if it looks like its needs to be stirred (if it is drying out or something). That looks really good!

I try not to stir because I know it can add to the cook time. Sometimes with meat I need to flip/rearrange if everything doesn't fit under the sauce, but I try to only do it once.
Ok... Confession. I love crock pot. But it saturates my house with the smell. Sometimes I get up in the morning and can smell dinner. It annoys.

I 100% agree with this. I have to open windows to create a cross breeze so that it is not Day 2 of Zesty BBQ Chicken.
@dizzykates come on over. It's not usually this good, but I have a stash of 2 weeks of freezer meals a friend and I made. Usually we're sitting here at 7 going "hey, we should eat, what should we do?" Then H ends up eating PB&J and I go to bed. We're very boring.
One evening playdate coming up!
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!
I usually use the crock pot when I need dinner and am not going to be home. It is not too common that I am home to smell the awesomeness that will be dinner. I used it last week to make salsa chicken while I was at Girl Scouts. Walk in the door, dinner's ready.
