Hcg levels dropping so slow after miscarriage

It has been 2 weeks since my miscarriage which started sep 2, my hcg levels are dropping so slow, sep 9 was 1700, sep 12 was 1087 and sep 16 only 1079, should I be worried? Has anyone had a similar situation? How long did it take for you to get to below 5? Any insight is so appreciated! Thanks

Honestly mine dropped pretty quickly after my surgeries so I don't have much advice. Have you talked to your doctor about it? What are they saying? How did you choose to miscarry (natural vs pill vs surgery)? That may make a difference. I don't know if you've checked out the TTCAL board but those ladies are amazing.

I had something similar after my m/c and it did take a some weeks to go down. I got tested every week from February to the end of march. By the end of march I was just above where I needed to be but it's a good sign that they're going down its only if they go up that your doctor would be concerned. I think eventually they should be in the negative I what the nurse told me. But I think it takes two to three months

It's hell because it hurts as your body doesn't let go and you feel hopeless as your own body is not in your control. Also the longer it takes the longer you might be benched. It fucking sucks, speaking from experience.

Eta it can also mean retained tissue or other health problems.

I think it just means your body may need help to get rid of it.
When I had my miscarriage they didn't even monitor my hCG levels they just gave me a cheap pregnancy test and told me to take it in four weeks and if my levels were down low enough it should be negative and if it was positive I was supposed to go back.

Yes yes yes. My body was screwed up and we had to wait to try again. It is that limbo and never knowing if I would ever really conceive or carry again. OP I a, so sorry for your loss.

How often are they testing you? Did they give you a time limit?

My old Ob wanted to test me every week until I got a negative blood test then after that every month until a year. But that's because they told me the tissue that was left could cause cancer and I'd m/c again if I got pregnant. By June I changed my Ob/gyn to a high risk one turns out they never looked at my pathology report they just assumed so he took me off the bc they gave me and told me everything was fine.

It took me 6 weeks to get down to zero after my loss. It does suck and I'm sorry you're going through it. I'll echo the others and say the TTCAL board is a great support system while dealing with a loss and all that comes with it. Hugs.

I just got a negative wondfo strip today- it's been exactly two weeks. My doctor didn't want to make me drive 30+ min to the hospital to keep getting stuck for bloodwork, so she suggested I just take HPTs and said we can TTC again as soon as they're negative. Yesterday was a squinter, and today- nothing. From what I found, it takes 25+ to get a positive reading, so I don't know for sure where I am, but I feel a lot better. Hang in there, and do check out the miscarriage/TTCaL boards if you're ready.

Thank you all, yes they have been monitoring me one a week, but I ave been going every Monday and Thursday! I thought it woud be a bigger drop! Today my doc sad she is not concerned at all with my numbers! Time will tell, I just want to start trying again! Ugh...

I remember reading somewhere about taking supplements that help your liver remove hormones. (Milk Thistle). Not sure of safety during pregnancy but definitely helps to detoxify the body. I found they helped me get pg this time.

It took me 7 weeks to get to 0, but I had no assistance, mine was natural... Then we waited two full cycles before 'trying' again.. And here we are.

FYI, that first period after mc isn't pretty.. At least mine wasn't. T&P lady! It will be okay.

with my last mc it took exactly 2 weeks post-op to get to zero (or pretty close.. like less than 5).

I had a D&C though (due to no HB found on US at 16 wks), so i'm not sure if that matters or not?

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you... I can't imagine how difficult that must be to have to continually be in that "limbo" state, both emotionally and physically.

I wonder if you could call and talk to a nurse and let her clearly (or as clearly as you can on such a difficult subject) know how difficult this wating period is for you and see if she can recommend anything to help you process through this faster? If there is a supplement or drinking a ton of water to help your liver/kidneys "flush" faster or something?? even if she can help "advocate" for you with the MD, and see if they come up with some solutions?
