RIVERS of pee

So DS started pre-K last month at the school where I teach 1st grade. A month before we enrolled him, he had gone a month without any accidents and was dry 4 nights out of the week. He went about two weeks in school without any accidents, although he had some trouble with pulling his pants up and I caught him shuffling around giving the whole first floor the full frontal (man, I wish pre-k had their own bathroom).

Last Tuesday, he had an accident. A big one. He fell asleep during storytime and just let loose. The entire class ran up to me to tell me. The teacher didn't even bring him down for dismissal since he was still sleeping in the puddle. He rode home naked.

After that, the flood gates opened. That Thursday, he fell asleep after school in my storytime chair and peed. Friday he stopped at the water fountain on the way to the bathroom and peed on the stool (he wouldn't have made it; the bathroom is pretty far from where we were). Then that night, he peed on his bed while playing ABC games on my phone. Today, he peed in computer class because he "was playing the game!" Then tonight, he jumped out of the tub to go to the bathroom and left a huge puddle TWO FEET AWAY from the commode.

Ugh. Is reversion like this normal?

  • Pre-K doesn't have their own bathroom?  Legally here, they have to have their own bathroom.

Chances are- he is so busy at school, he doesn't go when he is supposed to and gets so distracted that by all the cool things they are doing, that he forgets to pee.

I would have a chat with his teacher, and ask for the time being that she needs to set a timer and have him go every X minutes.   And if he refuses to go, he needs to stop the activity he is doing until he is willing to try.  And if you go on the website I linked, you can print off a behavioral chart- I personally am a fan of the one where you are linking the fireman to his fire truck.  If he pees on the potty he gets a sticker and when he fills the path.  When the path is filled he gets a small prize (thank you dollar section at Target)

I used that site when he was originally potty training. He still asks for a "wolly pop" when he goes #2. Maybe I can modify it for "no accidents today".
