Thrush

Hello, I am new to this board. I had my son 3 weeks ago and we have been doing really well up until the past few days. I noticed he developed thrush and my pediatrician called in Nystatin. But I've read things about this medicine containing sugar and not working very well. Does anyone else have experience with getting rid of it for good in their baby? I am taking GSE pills and Acidophilus, as well as watching my sugar intake now. I've read to take GSE drops and dilute them with water and swab them in baby's mouth every hour. But I only have the pills. Does anyone know if I can crush a pill and do this the same way?

I am kind of overwhelmed with trying to get rid of this. He has become overly fussy and gassy in the past few days and I wonder if it could be related to the thrush? He was a very easy, non fussy baby up until this last weekend.

Any advice will be helpful!!

Re: Thrush

  • The Nystatin has worked when my DD's have had it. I would be hesitant to crush up a pill and give it to your LO. Hope you get some relief soon.

  • Thanks for the responses. Did any of you change your diet because of it? I am still not sure if I have it or not. I don't have the sore nipples and he still nurses well and it's not painful. Just mild shooting pains throughout the day, but that could be clogged ducts? I am just wondering if I need to not eat any sugar or carbs in breads, pasta, etc.
