Recommend your convertible car seat

Things are getting tight in DS carseat and I think it's time to switch up. We have graco everything but I'm willing to look at other brands. Can you recommend your convertible car seat and tell me what you like and dislike about it? TIA

Re: Recommend your convertible car seat

  • Omg I'm stressing about which one to buy! I don't want to spend an arm and a leg but I want her to be safe.

We got the foonf and the only issues are the crotch strap is kinda short like people say but not a dealbreaker. And it's a little hard to get her in my sedan without bumping her head since it sits up so high but won't be an issue next year when we get an SUV.

What I like first and foremost are all the safety features and higher weight/height limits. It was easy to install and get tight by myself and the inspectors said good job. I like that it sits up higher so she can see out the window. The fabric is AWESOME. she spit up yesterday and it wiped up no problem.

ETA:got it on sale a couple weeks ago at amazon. Check camelcamelcamel.com for pricing trends.
  • We have the maxi cosi pria 70 and she likes it much better than her infant seat.

  • We went with the First Years True Fit. It's the same one that DS1 is in and we really like it. It is easy to install and easy to readjust the shoulder straps. It is rear facing up to 35lbs and forward facing up to 65lbs.

We honestly had no issues with it the first time around that it was an easy decision to get the same this time.

Ps- DS2's just was delivered today!
  • We have 2 of the Radian RXT seats.  It goes up to 45lbs rear facing, and turns into a booster later too.  It's a little pricy, but with that being the only seat we'll need to get for the boys, it's all worth it to me.  DS#1 also loved that he got to chose the colour of his seat ;)  Plus I like that we can put 3 of these seats across the back seat.

  • We LOVE our Graco Size4Me in Aries. It's easy to install, one of the highest rated seats for long term rear facing, you don't have to unlace the belts to adjust the height, the seat fabric comes off for easy washing, I have no issues with the straps or the buckle and DS seems to enjoy riding in it!

  • Britax pavilion, no rethreading for harness height, minor accident forgiveness, tons of added safety features, and the straps don't twist on me! It's really plush and comfy too. Got it for about $190 with the amazon mom sale.

Ditto this for us, too. We snagged them just last week during the Kohls deal -- and wanted to at least leave the option of being able to get three across if we decide to ever take the plunge and have a third.

We have the same MyRide 65 - little likes it, I think. We had the Graco SnugRide infant seat, so I'm also a Graco fan.

We actually got MyRide x2 and they both ended up fitting in our cars, I was more worried about fiance's car (Grand Prix) than mine (Sorento) but they both worked out and I got steals on both of them.

All car seats have to pass the same safety standards so there aren't any "unsafe" seats.

Go to bru and you can try some out. Choose one that fits baby, fits well in your car and youre comfortable installing.

Then you can buy online for a better price. I like albeebaby.com.

  • We have a britax marathon. It's one of the only ones that fit good in my small Mazda 3. I love it!

  • I have the Britax Boulevard car seat as my every day seat in my Toyota Corolla, and I love it.  My son is 18 months old, 33 inches and just about 25 lbs, and he fits very comfortably rear facing in it.  I love all the safety features, especially the extra side protection and the versa tether that can be used rear facing.  I just feel like my baby is very safe in it, and my seat is so secure in my car.  As a added bonus, there are additional convenience features with the buckle and easy to adjust straps that make it that much easier to get my baby in the seat (which can be a battle sometimes with him!).  And I love that Britax convertible seats are made in the USA!  I am a member of the BRITAX Safety Squad - opinions expressed here are my own.
  • We have a Combi Coccorro and I really like it. It's small so it can rearface in my Corolla with the front seat all the way back. They say kids outgrow it really quickly, though, since the shell is smaller but we haven't had that problem yet and DD is huge for her age.

I also have a Cosco one and I honestly prefer it (even though the Combi was like $230 and the Cosco was $50, go figure). It's wide so it's easy to get her in and out, it's tall so she won't out grow it quickly, it's cheap, it's easy to use... I just prefer it.

  • We're very happy with the Britax Roundabout 55. We have one in each car for DD1 (now almost 3yo) and just got one for DD2 for my car (will use the Snugride in DH's car for a little while longer). The price is reasonable for what by all accounts is a great seat (about $150).

  • Check out the FB group run by car seat techs called Car Seats for the Littles. I've learned a ton about car seat safety and they will help you find the perfect car seat for your child and car.

They usually recomend Dionos, Chicco Next Fits or Gracos because a child can sit rear facing the longest (age 2+ is recommended by the AAP). Usually children outgrow the Britax convertibles if they are in the 30% or higher for height because the shell is shorter.

I'm between the Diono (in case we want #3 we can fit 3 across) or the Chicco NextFit (super easy install, and it has 9 reclining options).

  • I'm rather tall/leggy (5'10") and need the driver seat pushed all the way back in our Corolla, and almost all the way back in our Prius. I got a Britax Marathon for my Corolla (fits behind the passenger seat), and a Recaro Proride for our Prius (fits behind the driver seat). The Proride has a higher height limit, which we think we will need since our guy has been in the 90th percentile for height since he was born. I really like that the proride sits up higher in the car, and just seems to fit him better. Both are comfy and he has fallen alseep in both. Look on amazon, they are both cheaper than in BBB or BRU.
