Our friends have a 3 year old who goes to daycare at a center. Her mom sent out a Yankee Candle fundraiser for the daycare center. She said this is the first of many fundraisers.
Is this common for daycare centers? I have never heard of this before. DS goes to an in-home daycare.
Is anyone's toddler fundraising for school already?
Re: Fundraising in Daycare?
We've had them so we could help staff do additional training that would have been $100+ oop per staff member. We did a fundraiser last year when licensing changed some rules and we needed new cribs for the infant room. We've also done them so we could get some new things for the center; playground equipment, toys, teaching materials, etc.
DC IS expensive but unless it is a huge center or chain, the profit isn't that much after staff gets paid and different bills each month. I'm friends with our director and she was telling me their expenses every month and it was outrageous. Sometimes the fundraiser are needed if we want the kids to have a little extra. That said, the fundraiser a aren't mandatory. If you participate great, if not oh well.
I should clarify - I have no problem with it for special things. Like my nephew had a trike-a-thon to help offset the costs of the new bikes/trikes and some concrete replacement to ride on.
It's the constant, expected, fundraising that bugs me.
Twice a year we do a Krispy Kreme fundraiser too. Our last day at that center is next Friday. I'm curious to see if the new dc does them.
ETA: our tuition is exceedingly high (over $1600/mo for toddlers, now $1400/mo for "pre-school prep," DS's current classroom).
