Up and down all night

I called off work today because I was exhausted and couldn't get everything prepped for work because I was up and down all night with the LO. She was clusterfeeding like crazy and every time I tried to set her down for bed and walk away she would wail. This doesn't happen very often. Any tips getting through these kind of nights so I don't miss work the next day? I can only drink so much coffee!!

Re: Up and down all night

  • Nights like that are usually just one night, and the next night is better. I remember that, and just power through the day the best I can, and go to sleep as soon as LO is down for the night. I say FU to the prep work and buy lunch instead of making it, and order something to be delivered for dinner. If I can, sometimes I sleep in an extra hour and go to work late. At work I try to find tasks that don't require much thought, and save the important stuff for the next day.

  • My advice is just remember this too shall pass.

DS2 was a horrible horrible sleeper. I was up at least three times a night up until about a month ago.

  • I bedshare too, normally it works out fine. This is the first time I've missed worked because of her. Working on nursing in the carrier, that is still a work in progress. I wish I could choose what tasks I do, I work at a call center and really can't change what I'm doing day to day.

  • How old is your little one? You can't really do much until 6 months. I read The Sleep Easy Solution and it was a god send. My son went from waking up 2-3 times a night to sleeping through the night. Are you still breastfeeding? If not can you have your partner help out.

I don't have any advice, just wanted to commiserate. Dd has been up 7-8 times a night for the past 2 nights, but will only eat once. She is FF, on Nutramigen due to MSPI. I've heard babies on Nutramigen don't sleep thru because it doesn't really fill them up, so I was prepared for 1-2 times a night. But these nights are killing me. Good luck. I hope it gets better for you soon.
  • I'm sorry! I've been through stages like that and the good news they are usually short lived. Have you considered pumping before bed so DH can do one feeding? Also co-sleeping may be a good option (although it never worked for me).

Co-sleeping helps most of the time. Good idea about pumping before bed so he can feed her, I'll try that. That will at least give some extra sleep.
