Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Shorter Night Sleep?

I feel like everyone has babies that are in their cribs for 12 hours at night (with wakeups).  My DD, with or without wakeups, will only sleep around 10 hours in her crib at night.  She sleeps from somewhere between 630 or 730 until around 5.  Sometimes earlier!  The latest she has EVER slept was to 650 and that was ONE TIME.  She does nap fairly well (three naps, two 1.5 hour ones on average and a 30 minute late afternoon one) but I cannot seem to keep her in bed any longer at night.  Anyone else have this?

  • Have you tried doing a feeding and putting her back down? Just a thought. If I go in and do a diaper change, feed him but don't turn on lights or interact, he plays for a bit and then goes back down for 30-90 min (depending on when he woke up.

Also, not sure exactly how old your LO is, but mine backed up his wake up time over the course of a few weeks. He hit the 12 hour mark for a few weeks, and now we're going through a sleep regression and he's back to waking up between 5:30 and 6. It stinks, but they change so much, so quickly - so I know it won't last forever!

  • Oh this is including wakeups.  Like if she wakes say at midnight and 3am I will feed her in the dark and she goes right back down to sleep no problem.  But if she decides to be up for the day at 430 am I can feed her and she will not go back down for anything!   (I rarely change her at night but tried it the other night to see if it would help and it did not) I can leave her to babble in her crib so she does not think it is play time but after a while she fusses and I am up with her.  It is noticible when I go to feed her that she is awake and up for the day.

  • You are describing my LO exactly. He's a good daytime napper too so I guess he just prefers to space out his sleep.

  • Cade is doing this right now as well. However, I think it's because we need to move his bedtime forward. Currently we go to sleep about 10:30 and he naps before bedtime. He used to wake at 9-10 am, now he's waking at 8. So I'm guessing our schedule needs to change and he needs to be moved to an 8pm bedtime.

  • We've never hit 12 hours either.  Baby O usually goes to sleep around 8pm and wakes up around 6am, however we have multiple wakings throughout the night that we just can't seem to curb.  Sometimes she'll decide that she's awake for the day at 4am! Last night she was up from 2-3am, and then went down until 7:30, the latest she's ever slept in.  Maybe try to move your DD's bedtime a little later?  Good luck..

  • This is my LO too. She'll sleep on average about 10 hours, sometimes with one wake up. She is a good daytime napper, for the most part. Probably takes anywhere from 3-4 hours of naps every day. She's a happy baby, so I'm trying not to be too concerned about it. It's def hard when you read all of the books that say she SHOULD be sleeping X amount every night. But, I think a happy baby speaks for herself. :) If she was fussy/unhappy, then I'd think she needed more sleep.
