Flu shot and blankie in crib questions

J had his 6 month check up today. We were offered the flu shot, which I wasn't prepared for. But I went ahead and gave it to him. Now I feel kinda bad that I didn't research it. But I'm in healthcare and we aren't getting our shots until the end of October so I want him to be protected. Anyone giving their LO the flu shot? He is doing well tonight so I'm guessing all is well. My second question is regarding blankies and lovies in the crib. Ped suggested he be allowed to have his blankie in the crib because we're having some difficulty with sleep training. When we were bedsharing he lived to stroke the sheet so ped thinks this might help. He has a small muslin Aiden and Anais blankie, which I hear is breathable. D you allow your 6 plus month old to have a blankie in the crib?

We gave DS a taggies blanket at first, and then switched to the A&A security blanket, because I liked that it was thiner. It REALLY helped with sleep training because he uses it to self soothe, suck on, stroke, etc. I've been pretty comfortable with it because he sleeps on his back. Even when he falls asleep with it on his face, the A&A ones are so thin, I don;t worry about it.

A few days ago though, he started flipping onto his belly, and he's still not great at getting himself back. For some reason the crib makes it harder (and he likes to stick his feet out through the slats - he's crazy!). Anyway, I'm less comfortable with it now, just because he could get it wrapped around his neck, because it's long enough diagonally. I also tried tying a knot in the A&A blanket to make it shorter, which worked pretty well. But in the end, we took it away last night in favor of a small taggies stuffed animal. It seems that as long as he has something to stroke, he's pretty happy.

I think you just have to get to know your child's sleep habits well and make a decision you are comfortable with.

I wasn't prepared when they offered the flu shot to my DS the first time either, but I let him get it and I still feel pretty good about that decision after talking with my pedi about it. I think both my kids will get them this year. Honestly, I feel like all the research is 50/50 on it...not to say you shouldn't research it, just that...well, in my experience, it doesn't help that much lol.

I think you could definitely try an A&A blanket at this point and just keep an eye on how he does with it. My DS had a light blanket in his crib from 4 months on because he basically didn't move in his sleep, and the blanket never, ever went anywhere near his head. If anything he scootched up and it ended up at his feet. My DD on the other hand is over 8 months old and I've never given her a blanket because she'll wrap it around her head in 10 seconds. Just depends on the baby!

Ok, I just had hubby go in and take the blankie away. Strangulation hazard never even entered my mind. He is extremely active. I will go buy a small stuffed animal for him to have. The only stuffies he has are larger and he likes to bury his face in them.

I let my kid sleep with a knit blanket. He can breathe through it and can't wrap it around his neck, it's too "thick". He also has his live and song monkey as well since he cannot sleep without them. At this age I feel he's fine though. He can roll, crawl, ect. However, my kid is 8+ months.

As for the flu shot I feel it's really NBD. At this age getting the flu is more harmful than getting a shot. So I'll take the shot. I don't make the rest of the house get it, just the kids.

Agree with nana - I would rather deal with the effects of the shot than the flu, which could get them hospitized. I'm mandated to get it at work (I'm in a hospital), and I make DH get it because he is a teacher and kids are germy. DD will get one at her well check in a few weeks.

We got the flu shot too..didn't know they had to get it in 2 doses but we just went ahead and had her get it. She's not around others too much -mostly just our families, but since you can't be too careful when you're out in public, I had her get it so she *hopefully* doesn't get sick. As far as something in the crib with her- I've let her have a thin receiving blanket the past couple of nights...it's been cool enough to sleep with the window in our bedroom open and I didn't want her to get cold. She has an A & A muslin sleep suit but it keeps coming unzipped when she flips around and I figured a blanket would be less binding. I didn't think to ask our pedi what age it was safe to have something in the crib with them, but she's done ok with the blanket so far so I'm not too worried.

I know a lot of people probably don't agree with me, but we've given DS a blanket in the crib since he was 3 months. he slept in his swing for the first 2 months so having him swaddled and covering up with a blanket really helped transitioning to his crib. He's almost 9 months and sleeps with 3 blankets in his crib and never have had any issues!

DS got his flu shot at his 6 month appointment. I won't give him anything in his crib until he's a year old. I don't feel comfortable with it. I don't even like him wearing big bibs when he's on his tummy playing while I watch him. He smashes his face into things and it freaks me out.
