Mean Mom of The Year...

Just sent DD to school with inappropriate shoes on bc she ran late this morning and didn't have time to put on her tennis shoes. She had 45 minutes to get dressed and eat breakfast and she was still late. Grrrrr...

Wrong shoes means she'll have to sit out in gym and get a non-participatory mark for the day. She swears she'll have to go to the office. Oh well, it's time for there to be some natural consequences up in this bitch.

  • Go Kate! I've given up trying to help my kids in the morning. They know what they need to do. They can either do it, or deal with the consequences later. Not my problem.

  • Maybe this will teach her to not waste time in the morning.
  • Yeah I'm just at the end of my rope...mainly bc I know come December, it's going to be even worse!
  • Yeah I may have yelled something similar recently...probably without fuck.
  • You already won that award when you wouldn't let her check online for her homework when she forgot it ;)

FWIW it seems like you implemented a very logical and appropriate consequence.

  • I would have done the same thing! Preparing them for the world is the opposite of being mean.

  • Flip flops {well more like sandals I guess...knock-off Jack Rogers}. They're supposed to wear shoes with a non-marking sole like tennis shoes or they can get away with Toms. If they don't, they have to change or they have to sit out and get marked off.
  • After that happens a certain amount of time, they have to go to the principals office.
  • DD was hysterically crying this morning because her new school uniform sweater has...wait for it...buttons.  She refused to wear it.  I think she will be a bit cold today for recess.

At our schools they send kids home fornnot following the dress code.
That would have been fine too. Though they don't do that here. We have a very loose dress code to say the least.
  • How long does it take to put on tennis shoes? Or at least throw them in your backpack? lol, such a weird thing to not do. Hope she learns her lesson, though!
  • It wasn't really the tennis shoes, but that was the last step of her morning and after going super slow all morning, at the time she is supposed to leave, she was still putting on her shoes. So she had to put the first pair of shoes I found in her room on and head out the door. She's lucky I let her take off the one she already had on.

This was like her 500th chance to get out the door in the morning...get back to me in about 8 years. ;) It's maddening.
  • Oh, I'm not judging you. I'm sure it was her own fault. But you'd think putting on shoes would be the easy part, you just put them on and go. Sometimes it's kind of amazing the things they can drag out.
  • Well, she has a horrible time tying her shoes. She's really bad at it. That's why it takes so long.

Nothing is easy when your child is getting ready for school. NOTHING.  Peeing takes 1 hour, shoes can take the same. Eating takes 57 hours.  I'm pretty sure it took 15 minutes for my DD to put on a headband this morning.. I had to resort to "YOU HAVE until the count of FIVE to get ON YOUR HEADBAND or you lose your iPad this afternoon!!!"  after I had told her 10 times to do so. A HEADBAND. That should take all of... 1 second?   So I get the sneaker situation. Totally.

And this is all while dealing with a kid you have to wake at ungodly hours of the morning, as they whine "I'm tiiiiiiired, I just wanna sleep!!!" and it takes them 10 minutes to even get OUT of the bed to start getting ready.  "I'm too tired to eat"..  "I wish I could just stay home!"  ...  and every 5 minutes "please take a bite of your breakfast" (the one that's taking 57 hours to eat). You will love it :D  BUT...... then they're in school for hours and hours and you can have silence and let the teacher deal with all 20 of them ;)

Honestly I don't have these issues but our school start later than most on here I think. It starts at 9. And we are so close to the school that bus is not until 8:40 so....kids are ready to go by then and it's fairly easy. Don't hate me.
You're banished from this thread. SEEYA!

No really, you do have a much later start.  I have to get my DD up at 6.  Her bus comes at 7:15.  If I drive her, we can leave at 7:30.

I have yelled a clean version of this at my 3 year old. Okay I didn't yell but I use a strong tone. No, your shorts don't go on your head. No, both legs don't go in the same hole. We go through this every damn day. Just get dressed already! ETA: oops, meant to quote AG
