whining?

over the last few weeks, my LO's default behavior setting seems to have switched to whining. it just seems like nothing makes him happy for more than a few minutes. i know he's fed and clean and no more sleep deprived than he's ever been, so i'm not sure what the deal is. is this just a phase? a short one, i hope? and how can i get through it? the whining just grates on my nerves, and by the end of the day, i'm ready to give him away to the UPS guy.

Re: whining?

  • I have no real advice, but I can sympathize- DD whines a lot too, especially towards evening. My guess is that she gets crankier as bedtime approaches :) For mine, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that she's not real good at getting around or playing with things by herself yet; once she becomes more mobile and learns how to play with toys, I'm hoping the whining will get better.

  • I would guess teething. Try giving Motrin. If the whining stops you will know he was ill or hurting. Hope he feels better soon. Mamas need happy babies
  • Oh yes, teething. Mine is a whiney mess when teething.
  • Around this age kids are starting to understand separation. But because they are in the beginning stages they're not always able to realize "Mom is leaving but will be right back" they just think of it as "mom is leaving." Thus the "whining". I tried chalking it up to teething but DS doesn't even have bumps along his gumlines. Welcome to the reality of motherhood. It is unfortunately not all sunshine, cuddles, and non-explosive diapers.

totally agree MBush4, its all another part of the babies development. They will soon grow out of this whining but will grow right into another.
Really? They're supposed to grow out of whining?  :-? Apparently DD skipped that development stage.  She went straight from whining without words to whining with words. J/K... kind of!

DS is doing this too.  I had a day last week where I was hiding when DH came home.  I'd locked the dog in the kitchen (he was adding to the problem) and I was upstairs nursing DS in his room with ear phones on watching netflix.  It was either give hime to the UPS man or just give him a boob and ignore him.  Glad I chose the latter.

  • Yeah, we went from pterodactyl shrieking from one contained spot to puppy dog whining at my feet and crawling after me.  If I remember right, screaming bloody murder while you cook is next, followed by "I climbed up here and can't get down" crying and then the word no.  My 2 yr old is currently saying "No way!" to everything I ask him to do, so eventually it does evolve into words!
