Should I push for a later c section

Should I push for a later c section date? I don't know how critical it is. I have a c sections date now and ill be 37 weeks.2 days when i go in. Should I try for a few more days in the oven or is that silly? Just a random thing I was thinking about and thought I'd ask.

  • It depends. What are the reasons for the c/s? Have you had any complications? What type of twins are they?

Well, I had fetal surgery due to TRAP sequence in my triplet pregnancy. But baby C is less than 5inches now and my Di/Di boys are doing great. My MFM thinks ill develop pre e but I haven't, I feel great. They won't let me go past 38weeks at kaiser. So, I would be pushing for just a few more days.

  • After my experience, I personally would.  I had mine at 37w3d and one twin spent eight days in the NICU, first because he couldn't keep his blood sugar up and then because they were concerned about possible apnea episodes.  The doctors kept saying things like "Well, he IS a 37 weeker..." and made it sound like things would have been different if I'd been able to go the extra week like we'd planned.  That said, I know lots of women on this board have had their babies a few weeks earlier than that with no NICU time and no complications, so it really is a crapshoot.

  • I would ask your OB or perinatologist what the risks are. Things can change quickly.

  • Di/di twins are usualy delivered by 38wks.  I think your doctor is concerned about the other factors, that you stated, so is worried that things could change quickly.  Personally, I'd schedule for 38 wks and if you go into labor before that (likely), or develop preE, then fine.  It's not going to matter much when the c-section was scheduled for, they'll aqueeze you in anyway.  I delivered 10 days before my girls scheduled c-section, so anything can happen.  They spend only 7 days in NiCU as feeders and growers.  They were 35w6d.
