I am considering flying with my LO on my own next month and she would be 7.5 months at the time...does have anyone have experience/advice on this? My husband can't make the trip, so I would be doing the airport/flying by myself (and I should mention I am pretty scared of flying). It would be a direct flight for 2 hours...does this sound crazy to you? I am going to visit my brother/sister-in-law who has a 2 year old and another one that is 2 weeks older then mine, so they have a pack n play and things like that I wouldn't have to bring...but I imagine a stroller would be helpful in the airport- I am not big into wearing her, but I guess I could. My LO isn't the type of baby that just falls asleep in random places either, so I worry about the flight- she barely sleeps at daycare, and most of her good naps are in a swing. She is a very laid back baby though and so she may not even mind it all...Sorry for the rambling...what are your thoughts?
Re: Traveling advice
Try to nurse or give her a bottle during takeoff so her ears don't hurt. We brought a stroller and were able to gate-check it, I would definitely recommend bringing one because wearing her and carrying luggage is going to be too much. I'd also recommend just buying diapers when you're down there rather than bringing them, save space. A 2 hour flight is nothing, you'll be fine. Good luck!
Speaking of stuff, I bought a travel boppy for our last two trips and haven't regretted it for a second. It gives your LO a comfy place to sleep and saves your arms. Just be aware that if you do have a random person next to you, even the smaller travel boppy just barely fits in your seat. But it zips up and turns into a bag with a strap, which was very usful with everything else I was bogged down with. I bought mine on amazon, it was cheaper than in the stores.
My non-napper has slept on every single flight so far...the sounds of the plane really are lulling. He may have woken up screaming once, and I may have cringed thinking, "Yup, I knew one day I'd be the mom with the screaming baby." But he calms down quickly and went back to sleep. Just remind yourself the flight is only a couple of hours. And you'll never see these people again:)
My last heads up--if you're on a smaller plane like I typically have been, there will be no good option for changing LO. I was not prepared for such horrible conditions (I'd been praying he wouldn't poop on the flight, but he did, both times I was without my DH. One was a blow out:)), but luckily I had a big change pad in my diaper bag and was able to make do in the tiny bathroom.
Can you tell I just got back from a lot of airplane travel? It's been a long summer! Good luck and try not to get too nervous, LO can feel it! You'll do great:)
