Anyone else on Bedrest with a toddler?

Hey ladies!

I am officially on bed rest until this LO comes.  I am showing signs of pre-e and PTL.  My OB indicated that while I am not dilated, I am showing signs of cervical change from all of the contractions I have had over the weekend and my BP was high again today, along with small amount of protein in my urine.  I am doing a 24 hour urine collection.

My other issue is this, I have a 2.5 y/o DD and DH recently started a new job so he doesn't have a lot of PTO.  We don't have family near by that can help with DD other than my sister and she and her husband are on extended vacation for the next two weeks.  Anyone else going through something similar?  What type of activities would you suggest for DD to keep her busy while I am stuck in the bed/couch?

She does go to daycare during the week, but I will also likely still have to take her since DH has to be at work before they open... any suggestions?

TIA

Re: Anyone else on Bedrest with a toddler?

  • Yup, me. I've got 3u4, but hubby was able to work it out with his office that he can work from home, which is good because I am not supposed to climb stairs frequently, lift the kids, or do any "active childcare" for them.

Sorry no suggestions... maybe movies? Don't feel about about it, it's a temporary thing.

  • Movies definitely, read books, if you have an iPad or tablet you can play educational games, do crafts, coloring, or play doh. I also saw a service that will send you a box with age appropriate crafts and activities. Here is the website: https://www.kiwicrate.com/overview/
  • thanks ladies!  excellent ideas.  I will def. look into them :)
  • I'm on modified bedrest because of SPD. My son will be 4 on this baby's due date. He's actually been great with understanding mommy needs to rest. He'll bring his toys or books to me on the couch. Movies are also great, and it's great snuggle time :)

  • Do you have any young girls in the neighborhood who might be willing to come play with your toddler for an hour or so? Even a 10 or 11 year old could entertain your kid for a few bucks if you were going to be there.
  • I have a 2 year old and just got put on bed rest last week. My husband drops him off and picks him up from daycare so really it's just me at home all day. I'm only having difficulty when he comes home because although my husband can do everything for him he doesn't want him. He wants "mamamamamamamama" (constant, nonstop Mama until my husband gives up and hands him over). Since I can't do much it's just been a lot of cuddle and reading time.

  • Bed rest with a toddler???? Sounds like an oxymoron to me. I hope you find some ways to make it work. Unfortunately lots of movies might be in the cards for your toddler... at least that's what is probably have to do for mine.

I'd suggest lots of floor playtime with your daughter. Maybe something she doesn't do on a daily basis like paint or lots of stickers. That could keep her occupied for longer amounts of time! My just turned 3 year old LOVES the sandbox & will play in it for hours if you don't have one and could swing that!
  • Yep I had to do it at the beginning of pregnancy for 7 weeks.  It was hard because I also couldn't pick him up so we had to do the toddler bed transition.

Do you have family that could help?  Is there any way you could put your toddler in daycare a few more days a week?

But if not, movies, puzzles, coloring are all great ideas.  I know it sucks but it's temporary!

  • Bed rest with a toddler is very hard! We have brought almost all his favorite toys out in the living room and he plays with those, we are big fans of coloring, painting with watercolors, playdough, rocks and his little cars in a tub etc.. I have family and friends that come over to help me too, so that helps a ton. And yes movies are a lifesaver!!! Hang in there, I know this is hard.
  • Thanks ladies!  I appreciate it.  Once my sister gets home she will come over and help out, but until then I will certainly take these suggestions!
  • This looks awesome! I'm on the site now and I'm about to order it.
