Babies: 6 - 9 Months

6 month old STILL won't sleep...

My 6 month old is up 3-5 times per night!!

She had feeding issues that are now resolved however, because of this she developed the habit of falling asleep eating (this was the only way we could get in her needed calories). Now, she expects to nurse ALL night, basically from 2am on I am a pacifier...I am not one who does well with Cry it out , Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

Re: 6 month old STILL won't sleep...

  • I was against CIO too, but when we hit the 6 month mark and my baby was still a terrible sleeper I knew something had to change. We used the Ferber method and saw immediate improvement. I suggest reading the book and following the method as laid out. We are now sleeping much better. Good luck!

  • My LO was waking up still quite a bit at her 6 month check up and the doctor was very adamant she does not need food in the middle of the night and that I need to let her cry a little so everyone can get more sleep (I joked and said I didn't believe him but really felt awful thinking of her waking and feeding her for some reason).  I was hesitant, but a few days later tried it out.  The first night she woke up at 2 (she goes to bed around 8) and I let her cry for about 5 minutes and when she hadn't calmed down at all I went in and took her out of the crib and out of the room and tried to soothe her without feeding her and put her back in the crib and she went back to sleep...she was up 10 minutes later and I did the same thing and she slept until 5:30 and I did feed her then and she woke up for the day at 7:30.  The next night she woke up at 3 and I did the same thing again, but when she went back to sleep she woke up at 6, ate and back to sleep until 7:30...the next night she slept from 8-6 with no wakings!   And has ever since!  She eats when she wakes at 6 then goes back down and up for the day at 7:30...maybe that technique is worth a try?  I know a lot of people say don't take them out of the crib, but I knew that would comfort her more then just rubbing her back and it did end up working.  Good luck!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • We went through a rough patch of sleep at 26 and 27 weeks I think due to a growth spurt but now things are back to normal and he is only waking 1-2 times. Is this a new thing for you if not it could just be a phase that will pass.

  • Our 7 month old isn't sleeping either and it's killing me!  We're not big on the idea of CIO/Ferber, but I think it's going to come to that because I'm honestly having trouble functioning at this point.  You are not alone!

  • I was against CIO with my first baby.  He did exactly what your LO is doing and for the same reason....it didn't stop until he was 16 months old.  I tried the No Cry Sleep Solution book...I loved the ideas but they didn't really work for us. You could try it.

With my second, I did Ferber at 6 months.  She was putting herself to sleep and STTN peacefully in less than 2 days, with minimal crying.  Totally worth it for the both of us.
