My LO is now 7 weeks old and I have been exclusively breastfeeding. I just got the OK from my doctor to start my birth control method that I chose, NuvaRing. First time ever using this. I asked her if it would affect my supply and she said it shouldn't since mine is now well established, but as I am looking up information on it, a lot of moms seemed to lose their supply. Are there any moms out there that are breastfeeding while on NuvaRing? I am nervous to start birth control at all right now as I don't want the hormone changes to affect my LO with the breastfeeding. I am planning on stopping after 6 months, depending on how things are going with getting back to work and such. Should I just wait? Any pointers are greatly appreciated!
Re: NuvaRing and Breastfeeding
Do not breastfeed while using NuvaRing. Some of the medicine may pass through the milk to the baby and could cause yellowing of the skin (jaundice) and breast enlargement in your baby. NuvaRing could also decrease the amount and quality of your breast milk.
