Taking Leave Frm Wrk... Now what?

Good morning!! :-) I am currently 36w4d pregnant with my first.  Initially, I was planning on working up until 39 wks of my pregnancy, but my doctor advised against it. For one, I have been having slightly elevated BP readings that fluculate when I am anxious. I went to L&D only to find that all of my tests came back normal, and I do not have preeclampsia. The doctor said he can't even dianose me with having gestational hypertension because my BP is more normal than not, but advised that I take my leave once I hit 37 wks, which will be this upcoming week, just to be on the safe side. I work at a school and have one client whose parents bring him to school pretty much 2/5 days he's supposed to be in school, and at this point, I think it's best if I take my leave earlier, especially because I do not qualify for maternity leave. My employer really likes me, so they said I can pretty much leave and return whenever I want, so I think I will take them up on their offer! Since I won't be working for the next 3 weeks until baby's born, what am I supposed to do with myself? What are you ladies doing who took leave early?

  • I am a child and am unable to answer seriously out of jealousy.
Haha!! Too funny! No honestly, all jokes aside, I really didn't want to leave work earlier than 39 weeks, and I work about an hour away from my home/ hospital. I'd rather work and keep myself busy.
  • @chicsahm that sounds heavenly!

  • chicsahm, yes I am a FTM and really have no idea what to expect once baby's born, but as of now, I feel so useless! My husband works full-time as a general manager of a restaurant. He works like 50+ hours a week, and here I will be, sitting on my butt relaxing. It doesn't seem fair!

OH! It IS SO FAIR! Believe me! Enjoy and savor every minute you have to yourself! Even though DH might be home "helping" it falls more solely on you, you are the one who will have to have a baby attached to your breast every few hrs (sometimes less, assuming you are BF'ing). And even when you are both working (this comes from my girlfriend who both work) It always falls more on the Mom. Enjoy the "I have nothing to do feeling" Seriously, I know it feels weird at first because that was me while at the end pregnant with DS, but try :D

I am assuming you are a FTM or you wouldn't be asking this, HAHA! I would suggest to savor every minute sleeping in, watching movies and your Fav TV shows without a care, cook some freezer meals while blasting your tunes, take daily strolls in your own thoughts, go shopping for baby stuff or stock up your pantry while taking all the time you want. Take long showers and use that shower sugar scrub that has been sitting in a drawer, go get a facial/pedicure/massage, get your hair done during the week day... just Relax, and savor a quiet house. Because while having a baby brings wonderful change and newness, it also brings a lot of change of things you will miss and won't get back.... until they move out HAHA!

     ***All AL'ers Welcome***

  • Relax, it will all be over soon. Lol. I got pulled early due to elevated BP with DS last time. I watched a lot of tv and read a lot.

  • When I was on "bedrest" (I was written out of work but more for my own comfort than to keep baby in) with DD1 I did a lot of shopping, cleaning, making freezer meals, visiting my grandparents, etc. I wasn't really that bored, honestly.

Right now I'm out because my sciatica makes it impossible to walk and I'm dying on day 2 because I can't do anything.

Three weeks before baby is due? Pshh, please. My doctor pulled me out of work in April. Like, "absolutely not I'm not signing off on you working through your pregnancy at that place", pulled me out. Three weeks is nothing. Especially when it's crunch time right before the baby comes. You should be able to find plenty to do.

I had the same thing happen to me. I'm in charge of the stock room and taking in shipment at a larger clothing store and even when promised, got no help!

I'm in a similar boat, but my baby is coming Monday (c section). I'm bored, but feeling super lousy. Hard to rest when you have killer heartburn, insomnia, anxiety, swollen/painful hands and feet, etc. I am thankful I'm not working anymore, but I'm too miserable to do much of anything :(

  • I'm my husbands assistant at work but he kicked me out of the office because I'm too preg crazy haha I was so sad at first because I wanted to have something help pass the time before baby comes. But it's been great so far and I honestly get more work done from home!
  • there is nothing really wrong with you, you should keep working.  esp if no official mat. leave i would want to save some money.

  • I am making this week my last at work! I plan on doing lots of yoga, getting a massage, getting my nails done, some last minute returns/exchanges for the nursery, catching up with friends, cooking my husband dinner...all things that probably won't happen again for a little while!
