Who uses carriers?

Who's still using carrier for their LOs? DD has outgrown her love of the sling, and I'm looking for a carrier for our out and about days. I borrowed my friends Snugli which she is about to outgrow in weight, but aside from that it's also very unsupported and uncomfortable.

I went to my local baby store and was able to try in the store and then rent 3 carriers for the week. I chose the Boba, Ergo, and Beco Gemini. I like the idea of the forward facing with the Beco since DD loved that about the snugli, but she's almost getting too heavy for me to wear in front anyways so I don't know how much of a benefit it will be. I also feel that some of the comfort is lost for her since it's more narrow in the crotch.

So far I feel I can wear the Boba for the longest, I was able to wear it on a charity walk for most of the day with no issue and she was able to sleep in it comfortably. I'm looking for opinions from anybody who uses these carriers on how they've lasted, how they worked for smaller LO's to now (and bigger if you have experience with older children in them). I need help deciding!

  • Carrying my 2.75yo in the Ergo at the zoo a few weeks ago. Despite the face in this pic he loves "riding on mommy's back"

I like my Ergo for both kids but if you're just looking for something for your May baby going forward you might want to check out the structured hiking carriers. They put kiddo up higher so they can see over you and are more comfortable for bigger kids.

  • I love my Ergo. We've gone on several hikes with it lately. It was comfortable and lo had no issues. I agree with pp though. If you are only going to use it with your 1yr old I would look at structured carriers.
  • I love my scootababy! It's a hip carrier and so easy for in and out, I carry my 35 month old in it too. Remember front facing is not good for babies hips and can cause nerve damage.

  • I have the Beco Butterfly and used to use it all of the time, I can change from front carry to back carry without taking her off - but as she's gotten older and wants to be more engaged, I've found the low back carry isn't as fun for her.  I'm not sure if the Gemini is as low on a back carry.  Oh, and the Butterfly isn't forward facing...hahaha, I guess that would make her rear facing on a back carry if it was!

I don't carry her that way all day, it's just been our ideal option when we've gone to the library for story telling events, or to the museum. Short trips where she wants to be more engaged.

Ds had been 28 lbs for 7 months now. I can still use the ergo for a bit but both our weights combined give me knee issues so I can't carry him for more that 30 min or I pay for it later. The ergo is great and it's not the ergo that is the issue, it's my own body. Ds loves facing me because I carry him in my arms facing in too, so he can ride along without holding on :-)
  • We're still using the sling for anything under an hour. Haven't had much cause to carry LO longer than that yet.
  • I wear my may baby everyday. I have a few Ergos, a Beco butterfly, and a Gemini. I like the Ergos the best. I carried my other son at age 5 in the ergo even!
