First injection tomorrow- advice?

I hate needles, I can't watch them go into my skin....
any advice? I'm really nervous

I was thinking I'd have DH do it, but when he showed me how quick he's do it, I just imagine him stabbing me with it, which freaks me out.

Lupron first... I know it will be better than I think it is. It's just the anticipation of it. And I'm nervous I'll be doing it wrong. The RN told me "do it at a 45* angle 10 inches from your bellybutton"... the video she referred me to tells me to do it at a 90* angle... and 10 inches from my bellybutton would be my back!

I second the fact that I feel more comfortable having control of the situation even tho I hated shots/needles pre-IVF. Are your meds in pens or syringes? In any case, expect a mini freek out just prior to the shot(s). Work through the emotions and then suck it up and just know that it will all be worth it in the end!

If you are on Menopur, I always went reeeealy slow with the injection, it can burn and slowing down the injection seemed to help the burn. I always did my shots sitting down looking down at the site. Grab some belly and pinch, I didn't let go until the needle was out. I did my injections with my left hand(I'm a lefty) with my palm facing up, thumb away from the belly to push in the plunger.

I had a pretty significant fear of needles before all of this, but the more needles that come my way the more comfortable I get with them. I prefer to do the injections myself because I like being in the driver seat and think I'd have a panic attack if DH had to do it. The first injection was the worst, but I focused on following the directions step by step which distracted me... until it got to the step where I had to stick it! But I took a breath and thought of it like ripping off a bandaid. Do it quick and get it over with!! Good luck

The little half inch needles are nothing. Most of the time you wont feel it. When you wipe your injection spot with alchohol, let it air dry before you give the shot...it can make it burn a little if you dont.

Hopefully your RE was nice and ordered Ovidrel in stead of the HCG/IM trigger ;P

Your RN definitely told you wrong! It's 2" from your belly button!! You're right, 10" would be your back! The first time is definitely the worst. For the first time this round, I did my own Lupron instead of having DH do it. I most definitely prefer me doing them! I think he's trying to get it all the way through me sometimes! Just do what a pp poster said and put the needle up to your skin and firmly push it in. I found this to be WAY easier than "jabbing" it in like a dart. I barely even felt it. Seriously, if you pinch your skin between your fingers with your nails, that will hurt more than these shots! You can do it!!

I also have a fear of needles. I can't watch when I'm given a shot or have blood drawn (and can't watch even if it's someone else being given a shot or having blood drawn). So for me it's working out for my DH to give me the shots. This way I don't have to look when the needle is going in. For me, thinking about it right beforehand is worse than the actual shot itself, I get anxious beforehand but then the shot ends up not being a big deal. The first day of Lupron I put a bandaid on afterwards thinking I might bleed, and taking the bandaid off was worse than the shot - lesson learned, no more bandaids. My DH has been doing such a good job that most of the time I barely feel anything. I wish you the best of luck - you can do it! I hope (and think) it will go better than you think it will!

I think Lupron is the easiest injection. The amount is so small and the needle is tiny. Pick a spot an inch from your belly button, clean it with the alcohol wipe, pinch the skin, and just do it.

I stimmed with follistim and menopur and like follistim cease the pen made it so easy. Menopur was ok, but I never felt like I got all of it out of the vial.

DH gave me my trigger and PIO injections, so those were easy for me.

It's not bad. If DH does it, don't watch and definitely do not study the needle beforehand. Again, it's not bad.
