How much are you spending on a Halloween costume?

I am trying to talk myself out of spending a ridiculous amount of money on an ADORABLE costume that DD will probably hate and wear for 20 minutes (and I already checked eBay). So I am hoping the results of this poll will affirm how unnecessary it is. So...how much did you/will you spend on LO's Halloween costume this year?

I voted SS because I haven't bought anything yet, but I'd love to keep it around $20.

  • $6 lady bug costume, used. Absolutely adorable!

  • I have no idea what Nola will be for Halloween because I just haven't thought that far ahead. With that said, I don't plan on spending over $30 on her costume. I would prefer to spend a lot less than that!

  • Either a $3 Tigger costume from consignment or a free dog costume that was a gift.

  • SS: skipping Halloween this year due to uncertainty of new baby arrival and NICU time. Plus all my kids I don't think will even notice.

  • DS has a Wolverine hoodie that was given to him as a gift, so we're going to use it as his Halloween costume. I never get too excited about Halloween, so I kind of half-ass it. (I do love watching Hocus Pocus though!)

  • I just bought her costume on etsy, it was $45.  My H and I are running a 5k in costume (with DD in the stroller), so we wanted something we could run in and something that would work for Halloween.  So we are going to be Thing 1 and Thing 2 and DD is going to be The Cat in the Hat.  I bought her a costume from Amazon for $25 and it was horrible; really cheap looking, smelled bed and the head piece seemed like 5 sizes bigger than the rest of the costume.  So I returned it and bought a girly version on etsy, it is a tutu interpretation with a smaller hat on a head band :-)

  • I hope to spend between $10-$20. We're on a budget this year.
  • SS - I'm not dressing the babe up.
My eight year old? Probs around $50

  • Bought a pumpkin costume at old navy a few weeks ago when they had a sale. It was about $20. I'm hoping it will fit for 2 years.

  • I bought a bumble bee costume for one of the girls at babies r us with a store credit for $25. The other will likely be wearing a hand me down flower costume borrowed from their older cousin. If not I will probably end up spending another $25 and get a lady bug that matches the bee. My intention when buying the bee though was to borrow the flower.

  • I bought some leggings and a turtleneck on ebay for $1.87 total.  I also bought some shoes with cats on them for $6.99.  Other than that, I made her ears and her tutu is in progress.

  • Bought a dino slip-on tunic that I hope we can use for dress-up later. It has velcro sides so it can be worn for a long time. That was $32. Need a shirt and pants to go under, but I'm not considering that part of the budget since she'll wear that after too.

  • In total, I spent more than normal because I bought them Gap bomber jackets (on sale) but they will wear them all winter so I was ok with spending the extra. The aviator hats were $5 and the airplane boxes will be free.

  • We will probably be spending around 30 for DD's costume.  We are getting tinkerbell for her.  Does anyone know where I can get this cheaper for her...she will be 13 months at Halloween and we were planning on buying it at the Disney store but not sure if there are other places we can get it cheaper.

It's not Tinkerbell, per se, but this website has fairy wings and tutus at really low prices compared to what I've seen elsewhere if you're willing to get a little creative and put your own costume together.  I used them for the white tutu and feather headband I put DD in for our Christmas card photo last year--it's not super-high-end, but it's definitely decent quality for the price!
