Shaving the goods

So, I'm going to just put it out there... I haven't shaved my breedy bits since early July. I can't see down there so what's the point, right? Well, it's getting to be that time where the Drs are going to wanna poke around down there and then the big event of birthing... Do I have to shave? Has anyone else given up shaving? I just don't want to... too much effort for something I couldn't careless about but I don't want to get strange looks at the Drs office or be embarrassed later on.

  • the gif =))

but I just get a hand mirror, sit on the floor with a towel under me and shave before I take my bath/shower. I hadn't shaved for a month or two also. No one was seeing it. No doctor, no male.. Just my undies. Lol. But I had to shave just because I started feeling yucky.

  • hahaha!!!   that cracked me up!     I attempted to shave down there a couple weeks ago and feel like I did an ok job.   I was wondering if it would last me the next few months, but alas, alack, it needs some help.   I'm not going to contort myself to try to get things too perfect, but will do my best to keep it presentable.

  • I shave once every couple weeks now. The last time was such a hack job. I apologized to my midwife and her response was, I'm surprised you're even attempting. So a lot of other pregnant women have given up. I think it's time...
  • Fixed things up over a month ago, and just now feeling like I should again. I'm lazy so I hate the idea of doing this. I could care less what DH sees..but soon a dr will be looking and I don't want to be judged.

  • DH has been totally understanding and doesn't seem to care. I finally caved and got an electric trimmer because I was feeling pretty unkempt. I don't think it was the most even/neatest job, but at least it's not getting tangled anymore! I'm sure medical professionals have seen it all, so I'm not particularly concerned about their opinion.

  • Who cares... As long as you are comfortable... I got a wax about 2 months ago and it wasn't that bad but I normally go every 6 weeks so I am used to it. If wax is not an option I would not bother with a razor. The last thing you want is to cut yourself down there or get an infection.
  • I mow my lady garden about every other week. I use the hand mirror trick as well. I have been shaving it since I was in the Navy. TMI, but it is a lot more sanitary when you may not get a shower for a few days or weeks. I am reminded of the 70s porn my brothers stashed in their closets as teens, if I don't keep it tidy. LOL.

  • Honestly?  I don't care.  I've always been a bit of a granola crunchy with regards to this, and I figure the nurses and midwives have seen everything under the sun.  It's not like I'm wandering around in a bikini or something.  Pits and legs are enough effort for me (plus dealing with the ladygarden almost always gives me itchy ingrowns - Do Not Want).

  • I can still see everything and get it all shaved up down there. I did with my first pregnancy as well. I don't like the way it feels if I don't. I didn't shave for a couple months after baby though because I didn't want to do anythiiiing down there besides keep myself clean and use witch hazel. Tender for a while with a vaginal birth!

I think it's probably more normal just to let it all grow at the end of the pregnancy though.... your doctor, nurses and midwives are not thinking a thing about it either. It feels uncomfortable for you because this isn't an everyday thing- but for them it is! I used to do cath's on paitents all the time and its really nothing.
  • I used to do it every couple days...I have trusted DH to do it a couple times because I needed to wear a bathing suit:) Since then I have not really touched it (except for a little bit of clean up) and honestly I don't care what the doctor thinks...Is that bad?? I mean honestly I don't think they will judge me and I am SURE they have seen much worse that what I have going on:) And, that is NOTHING compared to what they will see;)
  • I quit, lol. Last time I had my husband do it before my scheduled c-section, because I knew they'd do it otherwise. They were shocked that it was done!!

  • I have a wax appointment next Friday and I am NOT looking forward to it. It's going to hurt like a bitch. It will be a good time for me to practice mental pain management through meditation.

For a c-section, yes. Where they open you is very low. I suppose they don't want the hair on the way?

  • I'm still going for my monthly Brazilian sugarings. I do it 70% for myself as I don't like the feeling of hair. And 30% for MH to keep him a little interested ;)
I don't really care what my midwife and ob think. But I know I'm going for a Brazilian right before edd or induction date. Just to keep things "cleaner" for PP fun ;)

From what I've heard, no.  Shaving introduces nicks in the skin that can lead to infection.  As for c-section, the nurse leading the childbirth class for our hospital said they'd use an electric shaver to trim stuff, but, again, no razors to avoid infection.

  • I still do it once a week or so mostly by feel. I do the best I can but make sure you don't shave right before going to the hospital. The risk of getting a hospital acquired infection is too high.

  • Last month I broke down and spread eagle on the bathroom floor on top of a towel and let DH do it for me! Trust me, it was NOT sexy and there was no modesty! (As if there is any left between us anyway!) But he got the job done, just in time for my trans vag U/S and they didnt even look! I stayed completely covered the whole time!
  • I haven't done it in a while because it's uncomfortable and I can't see!  DH has offered to help and while I feel a little awkward about that, it's not like he's never seen it but a different setting, I think I'll take him up on it.  I feel like it's easier to keep everything clean and tidy if there isn't so much 70s porno hair in the way!  But--I wouldn't do it because of the Dr. because I'm sure they see all kinds!
  • I go for my wax and have one scheduled 9 days before my due date. I hope I make it there before I go into labor.
  • I shave the China about once a week. I do it blindly and I'm sure I miss some spots.

It helped that I was shaved for my last delivery becuase it ended up being an emergency c/s and they were in a big hurry, they brought the razer in to shave where they were going to cut and were pleasantly suprised that there was no bush whacking needed.

  • I'm going in for my usual full Brazilian sugaring this week, but mainly because I like how clean I feel afterwards. My doctor said "just leave it" when I asked her about it last appointment so I doubt you'll get any strange looks from the hospital staff.
  • I just get it waxed
  • I don't do it until I'm feeling frisky. Then it's like hmm...I should probably take care of that before I let him see down there!! So...I get in the shower, spend WAY too long shaving, and am completely not in the mood by the time I'm done. Much too winded/sore/exhausted to even do the deed after. But I do try to keep up on things once a month maybe lol!

I would not EVER put a razor down there with the view I have. I kept my waxing appointments regardless of how bad they hurt. I am actually going tomorrow. I stopped shaving a couple years ago and haven't looked back. Waxing is waaaay better for me.
  • I would think twice about putting my ladies part through that kind of stress.
  • My aesthetician says she will turn customers away if they have waited too long.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I can't see down there, but the hair was starting to bother me. I've never been waxed before, but I gave it a shot. It definitely hurt, but it really wasn't awful.
