Hand, Foot and Mouth?

Just found out today that our Girl Scout Troop Leader's son has Hand Foot and Mouth, came down with blisters Friday night.  We had Girl Scouts Thursday but he was not there.  I do not remember if he was at school pick up Friday.

Dylan woke up from her nap very clingy and acting tired.  3.5 hours later and she is still acting sluggish.  She is running a low grade temp.

Coincidence?  Any possibility that she has it too?

If she develops blisters, what is the likeliness the other two and I will get it too?
Thanks, we've never had this in almost 8 years of parenting.

  • My niece caught it from my DD a year and a half ago at 3 y/o. Her sisters who were 6 and 8 at the time didn't come down with it. So it's possible for them to avoid it.

  • DS had it last fall. We didn't realize till the sores appeared. Neither of my girls got it. They're 8 and 10. Not sure if age makes a difference. It was over Thanksgiving so they were together a lot but somehow they avoided it.
  • DS1 has had it twice. No one else got it the first time, and DS2 had a very mild case of it when DS1 had it the second time. DH and I are either immune or very hardy!

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • My son and I had it about 18 months ago.  My sons symptoms included a high temp for a few days (103), sores in his mouth and a rash on his hands.  I had a temp of 104.5 for THREE days and such bad sores on my feet I couldn't walk.  My sons doctor said some kids get bad cases and others are very mild.  My son was very sick for a few days and then back to his happy self very quickly.  It took me a much longer time to recover.

  • My daughter picked it up this summer. She ran a high fever for a day and a half and didn't eat much during that time. No blisters. Then, two days after she started feeling better, I came down with a sore throat and overall just feeling awful. The next day, I had bumps on my feet and hands and then the following day I had them all in my mouth and a bunch more on my hands and feet. Luckily it went away pretty quickly but it is VERY contagious. Be sure to have everyone wash their hands frequently and wash any blankets that get shared. Probably Lysol toys and stuff too. It REALLY sucked having it but it does go away quickly.
