Music Class

Has anyone tried KinderMusic or MusikGarten? Is it worth it? What exactly do they do in the class? Are the classes held out of someone's home? The websites aren't super clear about the details. Thanks!

Re: Music Class

  • I've done kindermusik with my DS and am now doing it with DD. It's offered through the local university, so the classes are held there with an instructor employed in the music faculty. The classes are quite structured and follow different themes. We listen to different songs and do different movements to go along with the music. There's also a variety of instruments that the kids can experiment with. You also get some materials to take home (a cd of music, small instrument). It's pretty expensive but good if you're kid is into music. DS hated going so I only did one session with him. DD has done one session and enjoyed it so were starting again in a couple of weeks.

I have been taking DD to music classes at Gymboree since she was ten months and she loves it. She has really developed a good sense of timing and rhythm from it. I'm not familiar with the programs you mentioned, but I'm sure they are similar. It's a combination of singing, dancing and instruments. There is usually a theme that changes every couple of weeks, like Caribbean music, pop, rock, etc.

  • Thanks for the responses. I found out Kindermusik offers a free class to try it out so we signed up to try it out next week. I'm really curious about gymboree so we signed up for their free class as well. I guess we will see which we like!
