bigger house-cleaning question

We are moving into a bigger house in 2 weeks. Currently we only have one bathroom, but our new house has 3 1/2, on 3 floors.
So for cleaning supplies, do you keep them all in one place and take them from bathroom to bathroom, keep some on each floor, or each bathroom gets its own supplies? I know this sounds like a silly question, but i'm a bit overwhelmed by the size of our new house.

Re: bigger house-cleaning question

  • Congrats on your new house (and your own bathroom, haha!).  We only have two and they're on the same floor but each has supplies.  Otherwise, I think I'd be more likely to put off the quick cleaning. The only thing that I share really is the Clorox toilet wand which stays in our bathroom with the bleach cleaning heads are up high out of reach.  My other cleaners are all non-toxic so while they are on a high shelf still, I feel okay leaving them in C's bathroom.

  • Thanks. I am so excited to have my own bathroom, with a locking door! I know i will probably find what works best for me eventually, but i'm afraid i'll put off cleaning too.

I might leave clorox wipes in each bathroom, but the major cleaning stuff in one place on each floor. I don't know.

The new house is more than twice the size of our current house. I don't know how i'm going to keep it clean.

  • Congrats on the new house!

Our house is more than 2x bigger than our last place and cleaning is so hard to keep up with! We also have 3 1/2 baths on 3 floors: 2 full baths on the top floor, a half bath on the middle floor, and a full bath in the finished basement. I have 2 full sets of cleaning supplies: 1 for the top floor and 1 for the middle floor. We don't use the basement bath often, so I don't clean it as often as the other bathrooms. When I need to clean it, I bring the caddy from the middle floor down.

I think it definitely helps to have cleaning supplies readily available. I used to have only one set and it was a pain to haul it up and down so much. I've even been debating getting a 3rd set to keep in DS' bathroom, but haven't committed to it yet.

  • I keep a set of everything on each floor. However, I ran out of toilet bowl cleaner one day and ran with it in my hand up the stairs... it flew out of my hand and bounced and sprayed down my entire stairwell. Carpet, walls, everything. I pass on my sorrow so you all don't repeat my mistake!

Oh no, that's awful. Now i know that if i'm out of a cleaner on one floor i'll just put it off until later.

  • @lulu8109, that is how our new house is too. I know we won't use the shower in the basement, but dh will use the toilet and sink. I still might keep clorox wipes down there to wipe down everything between real cleanings.

I think i'm stressing about this so much to keep myself from thinking of everything i still need to pack.

  • That sounds like a good idea about the wipes in the basement.  Tell DH he's in charge of cleaning the basement bath :-)  That's what I told my DH, but of course I still end up cleaning it before we have guests over.

Good luck packing and unpacking!  It'll be a pain :-(  But it will be worth it!
