Health Insurance question

When I got health insurance last year, I purchased outright through Humana a high deductible plan.  It was similar to what I had when I worked.  When they gave me the contract they excluded anything to do with the fact that I had abnormal pap.  So, does this mean they won't cover a pap?  Or is it just if I should get cancer due to the abnormal cells?  I have read the exclusion and I can't really determine but what would be your best guess?  I was going to call them and see if my pap is covered since that normally would be covered under preventative.

Thoughts?

Re: Health Insurance question

  • Definitely call to ask, but a pap should be covered since it is considered preventative. Due to the health care reform, it is a covered procedure.

  • I think that was the plan with obamacare but I've heard there were loopholes.  For instance, maybe since I got the insurance last year before the rule became effective I was grandfathered in?  I don't know to be honest.  I was wondering if eventually I would be covered.  I really need to get a coloscopy or however that's spelled, but I don't want to spend $1k on top of premiums right now.

It's kind of sad that insurance companies can be so profitable and yet be this way.  I'm kind of scared that I've waited and maybe I have cancer already and I'd be fckd.  I've been waiting for my husband's insurance to change over, but justt heard that it got delayed from this fall to next spring.  So, I don't want to wait anymore on getting this procedure done.
