  First, congratulations and you have plenty of time! Get yourself a copy of Baby Bargains and start reading!! Shop around for furniture. Some can take a long time (think 14 or 15 weeks) others (like the crib that we chose) take 3 weeks. I wouldn't worry about ordering until you've had your anatomy scan. If you're doing a gender specific nursery, wait until after your anatomy scan.  We started our baby registry at 20 weeks. I finished it at maybe 26 or 27 weeks?  I had three baby showers. They were at 28, 31 and 34 weeks respectively.  If your shower will not be local, I'd look into having it on the early side of the 3rd trimester.

  I would think about how you plan to parent before you shop... I still haven't used our $500 crib! What a waste of space!

  Uh..... your 6 weeks. Worry about nursery crap once your out of first tri. I wouldn't do anything personally until 24+ weeks personally.

  I registered right after my anatomy scan. I had the shower at 37 weeks I think. I would probably do a little earlier than that for shower if I could do it over. Crib I didn't have until around 35 weeks I think.. And it wasn't set up until after the shower. I got my crib on craigslist and it was in very good shape and I got a good deal on it.

  I had an issue ordering furniture.  I went to order at like 22 weeks (not long after anatomy scan!) and the set I wanted to order was going to take 13 weeks!  That seemed way to long in my opinion.  I ended up ordering a different set to get it set up earlier so I wasn't worrying about it coming so late. 

  I registered once I knew the sex and had my shower around 30 weeks.  I liked that timing because it was not super late and I didn't feel huge (plus I had time to fill in gaps in what I did not get before baby came).

  Congratulations! I bought our crib last week, and don't have any regrets on that. I'd say register for any items you KNOW you'll use around 24 weeks though. My showers were at 33 and 37 weeks. That wouldn't have worked out so well if she had come early, but I guess she's a procrastinator like me.

  We were painting the babies room and setting up the furniture when I was like 38 weeks or so, lol.  But I've always been a procrastinator and I wanted to wait to see what we got at our shower before we went out and bought anything ourselves.  We registered at 20 weeks after we found out the gender.  Showers were at 32 and 36 weeks.  Congrats and good luck!
