Shopping cart seat covers?

LO is finally getting to the point where he can sit in a shopping cart (5 months today, yay!). Can anyone recommend a shopping cart seat cover they like? I'm not terribly worried about germs--it's just that all that metal is awfully hard and pointy and not very comfortable.

Re: Shopping cart seat covers?

  • We have this one that we got as a gift. It is really plush and I actually used it this weekend and he loved it so much. We also have an Eddie Bauer one from Target that I keep in Dh's car that he likes too. The only thing is although they can sit up (my LO is 6 months and has sat up unassisted since 4 months) when you turn corners if you aren't careful they can fall over sideways. So you have to go really slow while turning or hold onto them. My LO hasn't mastered not falling over yet so i put my purse next to him or a blanket.

  • I got ours from Wal mart, the thing I like is it has a built in harness that helps keep him from falling over.  I bought ours for the simple reason the carts are disgusting, I have seen too many kids chewing on them and the bazillion people touching them... yuck.  I am NOT a germaphobe but still it is just gross.

Our LO hated his infant seat so we switched to a convertible at about 3-1/2 months so I needed something he could sit in while we shopped.   The harness (and my purse) kept him from falling over.

  • I still wear him or put him in the cart in the carseat. If I go shopping with him its usually smaller trips - like picking something up for dinner, etc so its just easier.  usually if we go anywhere in the car he falls asleep, so rather then waking him i just put the carseat in the cart and use the rest of the space for what i need.

Larger trips he stays home with Daddy as I go night when he is asleep or a weekend morning. I get done much quicker!

  • Right now I use a car seat or I carry him in my ergo. When it comes time for him to sit in the shopping cart I will use a seat cover because as someone who has pushed carts for Walmart and found things from gum to shit in the front part of the cart.. I do not want my son exposed to that. I am a person who agrees kids need germs to build their immune system.. but not other people's shit and snot thanks.

  • Mine is really cute it was a gift and it turns into a little purse so it's not this huge thing your carrying around. Will get you the name when I get home! I love it. LO likes it too because all that metal just looks so uncomfortable.
  •

Fold it up???  bahaha I just carry it out and throw it in the car. :)

Ha! Never really considered that. But with two plus a diaper bag, I would probably forget it in the car every time anyway. :)
Why do you take your diaper bag in? I only take mine if i'm going to be somewhere for a long time otherwise its in the car.

This. I don't even have a diaper bag... Just a couple extra diapers, ziplock with wipes, one extra outfit, and a toy thrown into my purse. But I only have one kid, so I guess that might change in the future. I am SO not a diaper bag person. We do have a shopping cart cover up haven't used it at this point.

That is true... I would be more apt to forget it in the cart.. LOL
BUT I have an 11 year old and she is very good at remembering things :)

Oh okay makes sense. I still carry a purse. I think getting rid of it makes me loose my fashionista identity I have in my head.

  • I don't have one yet, but a study was done, don't have the citation @clandestinex ;), that over 75% of cart handles have fecal matter on them. That's freakin disgusting and the cart gets wiped AND a cover out on it.

    I'll help you out!

USA news on the same study just in case the above link didn't work.

While your kid may or may not get sick immediately touching the cart, they can get sick days later and something as forgotten about as shopping carts, one would not suspect it to be a culprit in the child's sickness.
