Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need Answers For "Getting Ready For Baby"....Please. :-)

Hello mama's! I'm newly 6 weeks and two days pregnant. I need some feedback from some of you who went through the "getting ready for baby" process. My questions are....When is the best time to start ordering nursery furniture (early?) and start setting up nursery? When is the best time to have your baby registry finished? When is the best time to have your baby shower? I know all of you will answer according to your happenings and experiences of such preparations.....that's what I'm looking for! Thanks so much ladies! ;-)

  • I'd do all that sometime after 3 months, whenever it seems fun! Take advantage of your pregnancy whims: In the mood to shop? Buy baby stuff! Have a great idea for the nursery? Start decorating! Hungry? Have some Oreos! ;).The only thing to really make a point to hold off on until the last trimester is the shower, because people like it if you look nice and pregnant for that.

  • Congrats! I think we registered around 20 weeks and then did the shower and setting up around 28 - 34 weeks. For the shower, you want to be showing and know the sex (if you're finding out and if you care about that for clothes and bedding), but I wouldn't do the shower after 36 weeks because you don't want to be uncomfortable or at the risk of going into labor.

We got the carseat and packed the hospital bag around 36 weeks. Good luck, and best wishes for a happy and healthy 9 months!
  • I would wait also to do anything until after your first trimester.  I know that it is all so exciting.  Shopping I guess would depend on if you plan to have the shower before or after you have your baby.  If you have it after you will have to be sure that you have all of the esentials before the baby comes.  I would suggest decorating the nursery once you know what you are having( if you are finding out), and before you get so big that all that you want to do is sleep.

  • We didn't even start on the nursery until I was in my third trimester.  We ordered our furniture online, it arrived within a week, and we put it together in an evening.  The only thing I started on fairly early was my registry.  I just added to it and kept changing things until my shower.  We finished the nursery when I was about 36 weeks, and it was a good thing we did because I went into labor at 37 weeks!  ;)
