HCG drop with twins?

Hello,

After getting married Oct 2012 we immediately started trying to get pregnant. We found out I was prego on 8/6/13. Had my first ultrasound on 8/26/13. We saw one yolk sac no fetal poles. Went back for 2nd u/s on 9/9/13 and we saw 2 yolk sacs in 1 gestation sac. Identical twins how exciting! I was sent for hcg test on 9/10/13 and it was 125,875 but my levels today 9/12/13 dropped to 117,676. Now its another waiting game I am not scheduled for another u/s until Monday. I am freaking out. Is there still hope?

  • At a certain point in pregnancy, hcg levels stop rising. I am not sure when that is but what is important now is that they see heartbeats on the ultrasound.

    Good Luck!

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!
  • we have not seen the actual embryo yet only the yolks and have not heard the heart rate yet they think its too early. I am just so stressed and I am trying my best to stay positive but it is hard. Thank you so much for the well wishes though!!
  • They stopped doing HCG tests on me once we did an u/s and saw their heartbeats. They should just be checking your progesterone levels at this point and maybe estrogen (can't remember).

  • Try not to stress (easier said than done I know!!) But the fact that your HCG got that high and was doubling is in fact a GOOD sign. Sometimes those later numbers can fluctuate in later draws (lots of them done over years of I.F and 3 miscarriages so I have seen my fair share of HGC numbers) so try not to think about those numbers yours are very high and thats great. Also you didn't mention you had any bleeding or bad cramping or spotting nothing like that also a good sign. We saw baby As heart beat at 7 weeks saw the twins at that point but we couldn't see any baby in Bs sac until 9 weeks may have even been 9 1/2 weeks and now he is the bigger twin. Stay hydrated get lots of rest take it easy best you can until you have your ultrasound. Those first few weeks are nerve wrecking I know been there many times and yes there is still hope! If my twins are growing and thriving after the nightmare of a first trimester I had and a very close loss of B due to zero fluid and a very low heart beat and subchronic bleed you def have a great chance! just stay positive!!! Your body and those babies can do amazing things! My little miracle babies are both currently destroying my rib cage so I can testify to it! Keep us posted on how your U/S goes lots of thoughts and prays sent your way!

  • Thank you so much! Sorry for your previous loss and congrats to you!!!! I have had no bleeding or cramping in fact im still very tired and morning (all day) sickness is constant. The doctors have yet to give me a defined due date because they were not sure since 1 yolk sac turned to 2 yolk sacs 2 weeks later but still no baby to measure or heart beat. I am trying so very hard with the power of positive thinking. Its rough waiting for an u/s then the blood work just to have to start another waiting game. I just want to scream and cry and cry some more. We have told just close fam we are prego but we have not said anything about twins because both my husband and I are just to nervous. Thank you again for your well wishes and your positive story gives me hope. I will post an update!

  • Heading to my ultrasound in a few! fingers crossed!

  • Unfortunately it was a total loss. Both twins were dissolved but for some reason the gestational sac is continuing to grow as if it is still containing the twins. I am scheduled for the d&c tomorrow. Very upset after a year of trying then to find out it was identical twins. Doctor said to allow 2 month before starting to try again. :-<
  • I'm sorry DianeG... I've had a few losses as well, and they were never easy. Take it easy over the next two months and see what happens. Best of luck to you.
