We do Therapeutic Listening for SPD and it has helped DS greatly. We have been doing it for about 7 months. He still covers his ears occasionally, but it is much much better, and he is able to tolerate loud sounds and environments much better than before. We also find that he is better able to respond more appropriately to vocal cues in noisy environments. However, I am not sure how much of that is maturity, and how much is the program. We do the TL program that is offered through vital sounds, but I know that ILs has a program as well. We tried the ILs pillow and we hated it. It was supposed to help with sleep and self regulation, while desensitizing at night through vibrating the ear drum, and it did not do anything for him. Some people swear by it though.

Thanks ladies. DS has some sensory issues but none are related to noise. I'm not sure why she thinks it might help (it was just mentioned in passing as something she might try later on).
We have been doing the listening Program at OT since May combined with OT with wonderful results ( lo has ASD, ADHD and SPD). We started it this week at home and I'm not seeing the same results so not sure if it's the combination of Physical activity with the program that makes it more effective. I will tell you that when he does it at OT he is like a diffrent kid when we come home Calmer, Focus, relaxed and happy. I would try it for a period of time at Ot before you comitt to buying anything. The listening program has a new program where you can pay 24.90 month and listen through any devise that has internet access and can cancel at any time however you do have to buy the special ear phones regardless ( 70.00).

Does the OT do other activities in the same session as the therapeutic listening? Is it possible that the other activities could be contributing to the calm and focus, too? Our OT does a little with listening programs, but I've really found that we have to do activities in a certain order during our sessions for DD to be more "organized" later in the day. If we do vestibular/rotational activities at the end, DD turns into a clumsy mess. We generally have to do a gross motor activity with a lot of movement to counteract the effects of the vestibular work.
