When to move LO to his room

My son is 2 months and has slept in a bassinet in our room until now.  When is the right time to move him to his crib in his room?  When did you move your LO?

Re: When to move LO to his room

  • I moved Nolan to his room at about 3 weeks. A pine-sol related incident made us reconsider him sleeping in our room with those fumes... He transitioned no problem!

  • It is recommended until they are 6 months to reduce the SIDS risk, but I know Mama's that have moved their LO's earlier no problem.  Mine is almost 3 months and I like having him in there if for no other reason than its less walking back and forth for MOTN wake ups!

  • We moved LO in her crib in her nursery at 5 weeks. She was in a bassinet in our room prior to that. It's really up to you on when to transition your LO. We did it because I was having anxiety over her not transitioning well later on. She was just fine. And we all sleep much better because LO is such a noisy sleeper that we were getting up to check on her with every little grunt and sound when she was in her bassinet.
  • We are going to try next week( 2 months) both her and my dh are noisy sleepers lol so hoping everyone gets better sleep this way
  • It's my understanding that infants are at the highest risk of SIDS between 2-4 months, so the paranoid mom in me likes to wait until we are past that point.  Coincidentally, at 5 months is when DS1 grew out of the RnP so that is when we transitioned him.  I have to say, DS2 is not as good a sleeper as DS1 was and I am tempted to move him earlier if he continues to be such a light sleeper.
  • My LO starts daycare in 2 weeks when he will be 9 weeks old. He has slept and napped in a RnP this whole time and wakes up as soon as I lay him in his crib for a nap. I'm hoping he gets adjusted to the crib at daycare before moving him to his crib in his room at night at home.
  • My bassinet is OK for LO until he is 15 pounds, so I am planning to transition him into his crib and nursery once he surpasses that.

We moved our son to his crib at three weeks because none of us were sleeping well with him in our room. Thankfully, he transitioned great and has been STTN since six weeks old.

  • DD went in her room at 4.5 weeks and was STTN 2 weeks later.  DS has been in his room since 3.5 weeks.  Both were in their cribs from day one in their rooms, and were in a bassinet before that.

  • LO has slept in her crib in her room from her first night home from the hospital. It sounds like we are in the minority but it worked for us! We have a very close bedroom to bers and an awesome video monitor! She is 13 weeks now and only wakes up once a night.

    Good luck!
  • Started at 4 weeks with putting her in the crib after her 3am feed..she would stay for 3 or 4 hours. Put her in last night for the full night..she slept 8 hours...the whole night through! I use a video monitor so I can see her. The sound mutes itself until she makes a certain level of noise. I have a noise machine and humidifier in her room. Also keep the house cool to reduce SIDS. Crib is bare and baby is swaddled over her pj's.

  • We moved DS at 9 weeks when he started rolling on his side. I was worried he'd roll on his side in the bassinet and have trouble breathing so we moved him to his crib the same day as he figured out how to roll over. It hasn't been easy. He wakes up every two hours now, but I'm hoping he'll get passed that before I go back to work in 2 weeks.

  • My LO was in his crib from night one. Our room is right next to his, we leave both doors open, and have a sensitive audio monitor so I have always felt comfortable with this situation. And at two months he is already sleeping through the night. I think it all depends on when you are comfortable. If you have trouble, you could always start out with your LO in your room and then once deeply asleep move into their crib. Eventually you should be able to put your LO in their crib right away.
  • Our DS slept in his crib since he was five days old and it worked great for us! However, he is just a few steps away. If you are breastfeeding, you might want to wait until baby is close to STTN or only waking up once so you're not running back and forth between the rooms. Some people cosleep (same room, bassinet) for 6 months or even a year. It's totally up to you and what works for your family, but for us, we all sleep better in our own rooms! When we are out of town and sharing a room with the baby, it sucks tiptoeing around and he wakes up so easily!
