PTL Mamas - when stopping procardia?

I went on bed rest at 24wks for PTL and was given procardia to take "as needed".... after multiple trips to l&d in one week (2ks ago) I started to take procardia every 6hours. My doctor told me i'll be on it every 6hrs until 37 wks (1 1/2 wks from now). I've read that most people take stop taking it at 36wks...
I'm curious when everyone else is anticipated to stop taking it or if you have how far along you are.

  • I'm also on an "as needed basis" with 20 every six hours until 36 weeks. I am starting to contract through the Procardia so it will be interesting what happens when I stop. I'll be 36 weeks on Wednesday & I can say sianara to Procardia & progesterone suppositories!!

  • I was admitted to hospital bed rest at 24 weeks for contractions and a shortened cervix. I take Procardia regularly with a dose of 20 every 4 hours. I talked to my OB this morning and after I get discharged at 34 weeks, I will have to continue Procardia at the same dose and frequency until 37 weeks at my scheduled c section. But if I go into labor after 34 weeks, they will not stop it.

  • I was put on bedrest at around 28 weeks and will be until 35 weeks.
I'm told to take Procardia every ten hours.
After the 35 weeks Procardia+bedrest will be discontinued - anytime after that - labor will not be stopped.
    Oh, and I'm 30w2d

  • My last pregnancy, my doc took me off Procardia at 35 weeks and said if labor started after that they would not stop it, but I made it to my scheduled c-section at 37 weeks. I'm 32 weeks now and have been on 20mg every 4 hours since 26 weeks. I'm assuming she will follow the same course this time, but plan to ask at my appt this week.
  • @maryw5516 & @10-4lilbuddy .... if you don't mind me asking, why are your scheduled c-sections at 37 wks?

My OB explained that most hospitals won't let you schedule more than1 week prior to edd. I want my LO to get to full term and would be so grateful to be able to schedule mine at 38wks 5days as we had originally planned (the daily contractions and bed rest have become increasingly more difficult) but when we went to officially schedule she wouldn't budge before 39wks....

  • I'm carrying twins. Full term for twins is 37 or 38 weeks. I'm technically scheduled for 37.5 weeks. My OB gave me three reasons to go a few days early:
    1) I have a small frame and have been struggling to gain any weight - only 9 lbs at 32 weeks.
    2) I will have been on hospital bed rest for 10 weeks plus 3 weeks at home. She feels my body may end up getting too weak if we keep going. Esp since I've been contracting since week 23.
    3) My babies are extremely active and look healthy. I did two sets of steroid shots and magnesium IVs a few times.

  • 39 weeks is the goal this time, if we can make it there. But last time at 34 weeks they diagnosed my daughter with IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction) and scheduled for 37 weeks bc its technically full-term and they wanted to be sure she was healthy. I'm being monitored for IUGR this time, but so far little guy is keeping up pretty well with his growth. My dr won't estimate a delivery date for me yet though since we are still monitoring his growth.
