Circumcision %

Circumcision discussions have started on my A14 board. Most recent statistics say that about 55% of males are being circumcised in the U.S. and I was curious where S12 fell percentage wise. Not interested in having a debate on why you should/shouldn't circumcise since we've all BTDT. How many circumcised/uncircumcised kids do you have?

  • LOL. I legit almost put an option "I have a DD, but wanted to vote". I thought that SS would suffice though :)
  • SS. I have a girl. Just wanted to click something. Lol.

    Ha. Me too.

FWIW, if LO had been a boy, we would have circumcised.

I hit SS. I have a boy. His circumcision wasn't done correctly.
Oh no! What happened??? (If you don't mind me asking).

H is done... my boys probably won't be done. I dunno... there is something about that I'm just not 100% sure about. We'll cross that bridge if we ever get there.

  • I have a girl so I took the SS route, too.

If I had a boy, I would have wanted him to be circumcised. I was raised Jewish and with that being the norm. Turns out my husband doesn't want any boys to be, and he isn't. I'm fine with that.

If it were solely my choice, I likely wouldn't have done it. DH felt strongly about it and I told him he had veto rights on that choice, so he's circ'd.

  • I had no strong feelings either way, so I told DH to make the choice. I don't have that equipment, so I figured he would be better suited to decide :-) DH is circ'd, AJ is not.

  • SS. We have a girl. But if we'd had a boy, he wouldn't have been corcumsized.
  • I told DH it was his call.  We read through the info together on pro's and con's.  Both the boys are circ'd.  At fist Colby's looked like they didn't take enough off (similar to @mands629) but he has grown into it.
Also, Mands, my best friends son had to have his circ re-done, it sounds very similar to P.  The surgery was done around 14 months and he recovered great from it, she definitely doesn't regret getting it re-done.

  • Two circumcised boys in our house (well, 3 including DH ;) But if this baby and Brynn turned out to be boys as well, they would have been circumcised too.

That's good to know!  I don't want to have the surgery, just because I don't want my baby to have surgery.  But on the other hand, I don't want Perry to be made fun of when he's older because his penis doesn't look like anyone else's - circ or uncirc.  :(
That's the same thought process she had.  Really, I was shocked at how quick he recovered. uncomfortable for a day, sore for 3, completely fine by 6.  Kids are pretty resilient! Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

  • I voted 1 uncircumcised.  We were originally planning on it, but he was too sick when he was born, then he was too old to have it done by his pedi.  If we want it done now we'd have to schedule with a urologist.  At this point we are not going to have it done.

This was exactly us.  He had to change all diapers until it healed because I refused to look at it.  I still feel sick when I think about it and I think I'll have a really hard time going through with it if we were to have another son.

We have a girl with a girl on the way.  If we have any boys, they'll be circumcised.

ETA: Well, they'll be circumcised if we can have it done at birth... We probably wouldn't have a boy circumcised if it required surgery, just because surgery/anesthesia+harder recovery would make it not worth it to me.  My nephew with down syndrome ended up getting the surgery (I think he was about 18 months at the time, and it went fine and he healed well.)
  • Both DH and DS are done!

  • We did, but I kinda regret it now.  I doubt we will circ if we have any more boys.
I wasn't a fan after we had it done with Keagan at first, but figured this time around we were kind of stuck doing it, with DH and DS1 circ'ed I didn't want Colby feeling different later in life.  Now that everything is healed and there are no underlying issues I don't mind that we did it with both of them

  • DS is circ'ed. I left that up to DH and he said yes. The doctors tried to talk us out of it several different times. I finally got irritated and told them it was my husbands decision, not theirs.
