My DD is 9 1/2 months and drinks 4 8oz bottle a day with a breakfast and dinner. I'm looking to add in lunch, but unsure of the order..bottles or solids first?? Also looking for meal suggestions. I do NOT do baby led weaning and she is in FT daycare. Here is her current schedule:
7 AM - 8 oz bottle
9 AM - oatmeal with mixed in fruit purée
Noon - 8 oz bottle
4 PM - 8 oz bottle
6 PM - veggie purée or fruit - baby food pouches
7:30 PM - 8 oz bottle
I have started some table food here and there... Strawberries, avocado, peas. Looking for other ideas for lunch and dinner.
Should I have daycare feed her lunch before the noon bottle? I'd like to begin weaning down from the 32 oz each day onto more solids, with the goal of cutting out 1 bottle a day. I'm just so lost with how to do this!! Any advice for this FTM? Thanks
Re: Meals for 9 Month old and scheduling help
We're graduating out of baby food and into table food with DD2, and she's 9 months old. She has the dexterity to feed herself and lots of teeth. She BF, and the introduction of solids has gradually cut out feedings. She usually nurses 2-3 times during the day and 1-2 times during the night.
(I just wanted to preface with that)
I give DD2 just about anything we eat. Last night she had ziti (with whole-wheat noodles). She eats scrambled eggs, oatmeal, bread, chicken, cheese, casseroles, and virtually every "soft" fruit and vegetable (cooked green beans, avocados, sweet potatoes, raspberries, peaches, etc.) She also likes baby crackers (Gerber Puffs) and Cheerios.
Maybe try incorporating lunch at daycare? I think it'd work better to feed her solid food first, and then offer the bottle, if you're looking to wean her off of one. In my experience, keeping the nighttime bottles/feedings makes the weaning transition much more gradual, but also much smoother. In our family, we introduce solids "early" by current pediatric standards (4-5 months) but slowly. I've been happy with both girls' adjustments from BF to solid food. Weaning wasn't traumatic with DD1 at all, and she chose when to quit at about 13 months.
If you're concerned at all about her nutritional adjustment, definitely talk to your doctor. He/she might have some suggestions for making the transition to solid foods work for your family.
