7 Weeks Pregnant

Cyst on ovary

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and just found out I have a slightly larger than egg sized cyst on the outside of my ovary. Has anyone else had this or have this and what are you doing about it? I'm going back in 3 weeks to do another ultra-sound and to see if anything has changed. The baby has a healthy heartbeat though :)

Re: Cyst on ovary

  • I have not had this happen to me. However my sister had a cyst on her ovary with her first pregnancy. It continued to grow larger and not smaller. She ended up having to have it removed surgically.  I don't want to scare you. And in most cases it shrinks by itself. Just keep an eye on it. My sister has a beautiful 3 year old now after her cyst was removed!!! Good luck! You are in my prayers!!!!

  • Thank you Smile I'm sure that my OB will guide me in the right direction in terms of what to do. I do hope that it shrinks though. I go back for another ultra sound in 3 weeks, so we'll see.

  • I had my first ultra sound at six weeks and the ultra sound tech said I have a cyst too. She told me that they are common and nothing to worry about this early in pregnancy, my baby also has a strong heartbeat! Smile Is this your first baby kmoon14??
  • I experienced this last year. I had to get it removed. Just want to encourage you to pray and not worry. Everything will work itself out. My advice is to not read about it. Just allow your body to handle it accordingly. May God bless you and your pregnancy.
  • I'm 7 weeks with my first and went to my sonogram appointment yesterday and was told that I have a cyst on my right ovary. My doc says it's caused by progesterone and is completely normal and they usually dissolve by the end of the 2nd trimester.

  • I am an ultrasound tech. It is healthy to have a cyst on one of your ovaries in early pregnancy. It happens on the ovary you got pregnant from the ovary that released the egg the cyst is basically a progesterone pool to support the pregnancy until the placenta is large enough to take over that role. Most women have small corpus luteum cysts of about 1.5cm but I have seen them as big as 5 cm. as long as they don't get so big that they would cutoff blood flow to the ovary from their weight it shouldn't be a problem. A lot of women will have just a little pain on the side of their corpus luteum cyst.
  • And i torgot to say that probably only one in a million pregnant ladies has ever had them removed it is super rare. Also if I don't see a corpus luteum cyst on an early pregnancy ultrasound I worry about the health of that pregnancy that's how important it is to have enough progesterone at this point
  • I have one still on my ovary and one actually ruptured around 4 weeks pregnant. The baby looked ok on 6 weeks and everything is going ok. I have them a LOT and they were not concerned. The dr said it would more than likely go down considering they gave me provera for cysts after two negative pregnancy tests and then I never started my period and poof pregnant!!!! :)
  • Hi! I posted this exact same thing after my first appointment yesterday.  I am happy that it has such a great purpose, but it definitely explains all the pain I am having on my right side and my lower back.  It's good to know it's there if it helps the baby stay safe:)  I go back in 3 weeks for another ultrasound.

  • When I went to my OB 2 weeks ago for an u/s she also found an ovarian cyst on my right ovary (where the egg originated from)
She measured the cyst to be 6.0 cm, and im going again in a few days to make sure it hasn't gotten larger. If it has, they'll need to remove. The gestational sac measured at 9.6 mm. Crazy that the cyst is almost as big!

  • It can go either way.  I've had cysts pretty much my entire adult life.  They sometimes caused me pain, but were normally uneventful.  I have only had two instances where they were a problem and that was after delivering in the beginning of 2001 and at the end of 2002.  Both times I had a cycst rupture within weeks or months of delivery.

My chances of having that happen are higher, but I still don't worry much about it,  I think after this last delivery, I'm going to have them bad boys lopped off!
