Natural Birth

Resources for a Potential FTM

Hello everyone! After weeks of stalking this board, I am ready to introduce myself! My husband and I are ready to TTC, and we are convinced that natural birth is the way to go. :-) I am definitely an A-type personality, and I usually manage stress about new experiences and get in the mindset t really enjoy them by researching the heck out of them. Do you have any suggestions for good, comprehensive resources that I can use to learn about, well, everything? Right now my experience with natural birth includes only my best friend's birthing experiences (one horrifying hospital experience and one simply sweet home one) and a few documentaries, so I am definitely ready to learn more!

Re: Resources for a Potential FTM

  • I would suggest reading up on natural birth.  There are a lot of good books out there.  I like the books by Ina May.  I had a hopsital birth so I read up on several books focused on a natural hospital birth (The thinking womans guide to a better birth by Henci Goer and Natural Hospital Birth: The Best of Borth Worlds by Cynthia Gabriel.  We took the Bradley classes so we read the husband coached childbirth book.  Several ladies on this board recommend The birth partner by Penny Simkin.  I wanted to read the book "Birthing from within" but never got around to it.  GL!
  • I loved my hypnobirthing course! And I read a lot of research-based as well as anecdotal articles and tried to find as many positive birth stories as possible (never pay attention to the negative ones!!).
