Symptoms that just go away with birth

So I have a question, just because I'm curious. Which pregnancy symptoms seem to go away immediately after giving birth (or within a couple of days)? For any btdt moms or new moms, was there anything noticeable? Heart burn, numbness of hands, numbness of upper abdomen, frequent bathroom breaks, swelling of hands/feet, constant overheating, cravings, etc. Just wondering how long they tend to stick around and which ones went away fastest for you.

Re: Symptoms that just go away with birth

  • Heartburn, morning sickness, and numbness went away immediately for me.

  • All of those went away for me with DS, and were replaced with a lot of pain sitting and going to the bathroom, and feeling dirty and smelly because PP bleeding smells bad, as does spit up, which I was covered in for a couple months!

  • I'm back to my normal super bladder, which was actually really strange at first to not go to the bathroom as frequently. I didn't think of it until you just mentioned it, but the carpal tunnel like symptoms (hand numbness/pain) I'd been having went away, too, as did the SI joint pain.

  • For me with DD the carpal tunnel went away right away. Most of my swelling was gone in a day or two, and so were the constant bathroom trips. The hot flashes didn't go away for several weeks as my hormones adjusted. In general pregnancy symptoms went away pretty quickly but were replaced by post partum soreness, engorged and leaky boobs, and exhaustion. By the time I went back to work at 12 weeks I felt pretty much back to my normal self, or at least my new normal. :)
  • With DS, my carpal tunnel didn't go away for 6 weeks pp.

Heartburn and frequent peeing went away nearly immediately.

  • Basically everything and pretty immediately!! That's the good news!

  • Heartburn and reflux disappear almost immediately for me. Swelling takes a few days to go away, and when it does, I have to pee TONS. But only for a day or two. I had lots of red spider veins on my chest this time, and they're gone already (had my baby on the 7th.)

  • Heartburn is totally gone for me (praise the lord!! haha) and I am So glad as I have missed being able to eat what I want when I want and then being able to lay down right after!! I am still having cravings...although it could just be a mental thing at this point too  :)) With bathroom breaks I don't think I'm going as much but when I have to go I HAVE to go or I run the risk of wetting myself (tons of fun when LO is feeding). I only had occasional numbness in my hands (like once or twice at the end of the work day) and haven't had any since and my RLS is totally gone since she has gotten here.

Just my experience and LO is three days old today. Good luck!
  • At least u guys give me something to look forward to because the swelling and pain in my fingers are becoming unbearable. Cheers to delivery when it comes <:-P
  • I was on Zofran for my whole pregnancy and my nausea went away immediately after birth!  The heartburn went away right away too as well as the frequent bathroom trips.  Phew!

  • Reflux went away immediately. Swelling is the same or worse. I think my face is puffier than when I went in to deliver. Feet are worse. Peeing is not as much. I don't have a bad smell with PP bleeding. It smells almost sweet. I had LO on Tuesday the 10th and it's almost down to a regular pad amount although I've read from BTDT it may increase again before going away.

My appetite has gone down almost to what it was pre-pregnancy. Cravings and that "gotta have it now" are gone. Ex: wanted McD's quite a bit in the last month and now I don't want it at all. Same as pre-pregnancy.

  • Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences- hoping I have the same with the carpal tunnel and heartburn :)
  • Heartburn definitely went right away. prepare yourself that you may still have swelling for a few days pp, and my dr advised for some it can be worse than during pregnancy.
  • Heartburn, belly numbness, hip aches, sciatic pain, all went away immediately. Frequent bathroom trips not so much, but I was drinking like crazy for milk production.

  • I don't have to pee nearly as much! Also, I can finally breathe again. Still feel weird laying fully down on my back, though. Oh, and my swelling is worse :( but there's hope yet!
  • Heartburn went away, so did tingling hands and outrageous hunger.
However my feet swelled like crazy for about 5 days. That was weird.

This was me. My feet swelled the 'normal' amount from weight gain during pregnancy but days 2-3 pp my feet swelled to what I would have considered pre-e size. Now (day 4) they are going down again.

I've gotten tons of little red spider vein patches this pg! I got one under my eye a few months ago, but this morning noticed a bunch of them on my chest! Hope they dissapear!

  • This post was awesome.  Thanks!  It reminds me that after Tuesday, (my C-section) a lot of these discomforts that keep me from sleeping or even walking comfortably at this point will be on their way out!

  • Acid reflux went away immediately. Swelling in hands and feet stayed for a couple days. The numbness under my ribs is still there, not sure when that will disappear.

My feet were so bad two nights ago. DH pressed his finger into the top of my left foot and the dent stayed for a good few minutes.

  • Heartburn went away immediately, as did carpal tunnel, stuffy nose and my food cravings. Unfortunately my swelling got much worse postpartum. My ankles and hands, even face are so swollen postpartum. It may be unique to having a csection and requiring 6 bags of IV fluids though. I am peeing just as much thanks to the fluids, but it took a couple of days for the urge to return thanks to weak pelvic floor muscles from the pregnancy.
