Severe Acid Reflux(long)

Any of you ladies dealing with this? I've had this horrible pain in my chest right below my breast and back. It's really painful and I've never had this before being pregnant. I've had it happen a few times already and within 10-30 minutes it usually subsides. My OB asked me to see my regular Dr. To rule out heart problems which I passed with flying colors so we ruled that out. They said it could possibly be acid reflux instead...so fast forward to last weekend when it happened again. I went in to L&D since it was so bad I was having trouble breathing..they monitored me and baby was fine. No contractions at all and blood pressure was fine. It finally started to subside after abut an hour of being there but they still couldn't pin point if it was reflux but told me to buy Pepcid,Maalox in case it happened again. So this morning around 6:30am it started again and got really bad once again to where I was in tears..took the medicine and it eventually went away but I'm still sitting here at 11am with a slight pain still under my chest and back. So it didn't fully go away this time..I don't want to go back to L&D since they couldn't do anything for me last time but this is just too much. I see my OB again this week so I'm going to have to tell her I need something stronger if this is what it is. If any of you have had this before is this what it feels like? I've never had it last this long so Im just concerned..it's so excruciatingly painful and uncomfortable.

Re: Severe Acid Reflux(long)

  • My doctor diagnosed me with Gurd. Which is severe heart burn. He put me on Priolsec. It's has helped. The only problem I have now is two babies pushing on my ribs so they are very high up. Eating too late at night still causes like a gag reaction. Which there would be nothing that my doctor can do.

  • Zantac has been great for me too. I take 150mg every 12 hrs, and eat a few Tums if needed in between. Without it I feel like I could breathe fire.

  • Have you ruled out gallbladder issues? Other than that, Zantac has been my savior.
  • They checked my urine in L&D and didn't see any problems. I don't get anything in my throat area or a taste of anything so that's why I'm not sure that its acid reflux. It never lasted as long as it did today. Finally around 1pm it went away and that acid reflux medicine crap never worked! We did eat late last night around 9pm then I went to bed around 10:30pm so that could have triggered it. I've stayed away from caffeine and fried goods since I went to my regular Dr. And he suggested that for preventative measures so??? I don't know what else to do, it's so horrible that I have to get it under control and at least know for sure what it is! 8 more weeks of this will not be good. I will bring it up again when I see my OB on Tuesday.
  • I'd ditto checking the gallbladder... It can be radiating pain in chest/shoulder, and sucks terribly. I hope this isn't what you are dealing with, but worth having them check! Good luck getting to the bottom of the pain, whatever it is.

  • I've been getting both acid reflux(burning throat with acid coming most the way up) and heartburn which sounds like what you are describing.  It makes me feel like I'm having a heart attack.(radiating towards back too.)  Zantac wasn't effective for me when I took it at first sign of symptoms but I haven't had heartburn the last couple weeks after taking it every 12 hours.  I still get acid reflux but I'll take that over the heartburn anyday!
I steer clear of known heartburn triggers also.
