Diapers how many to stock up on....

Alright I'm a couponer and pretty good at what I do. I'm trying to stock up on diapers before the babies come but curious as to which sizes I should buy the most of? Is there a brand of diapers that you prefer over another? I know that every baby is different but just a ballpark would be great. I'm buying the case size( so like the Huggies size 2 for $19.99 that has 92 diapers). Thanks Ladies

Re: Diapers how many to stock up on....

  • I swear by Pampers for my boys.. Wore a huggies trial I got in the mail and my son leaked through it in 30 minutes.
My twins wore sizes 2 and 3 for the longest time early on and we have been in size 5 for months now.
    Good luck and happy shopping

  • We love Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive. We are just starting to pick them up (3 packs of newborns for the time being). Size 1s and 2s should last you awhile. We also liked Luvs when DD got a bit older.

  • We are a Huggies family, pampers didn't fit DS well so he leaked through them a lot. We were only in NB for a few weeks and spent the most time is 3&4's. He grew so fast while BFing! I definitely over bought size 1, we were in them for such a brief period. Where do you find diaper coupons? Do you sign up online with the manufacturer? I never get diaper coupons but need to get better at clipping and saving on everything!!!

  • We did the same, stocked up on the NB, 1 and 2 sizes of the Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive. Def good to have a variety bc even though they are twins, they could wear different sizes at different times. My DS is already in size 2 diapers and DD is still in size 1.
Also, any tips on couponing for diapers? I can't ever seem to find coupons for Pampers!

  • All babies are different. My older daughters both never went any further than a size 3, and spent the most time in size 1 - they both potty trained - day and night - before they turned 2yrs old, each. Buying anything in 4 or 5 would have been a complete waste - DD#2 would have been a whole four years old before she outgrew a size 3,  had she still been wearing diapers at that time.

So far, the boys spent about a month in NB, and six mo in size 1 - we've only swapped into the size 2 as of last month. I expect them to hit size 3 sometime next year, at this rate.

Aurielle, my oldest, did best with Huggies. They were the most absorbent and well fitting at the time (11yrs ago). Alyce did best with LUVS (the cheaper version of Pampers, made by the same company). The boys do best with Huggies and Kirkland (who do a Huggies knockoff) - the Pampers/LUVS/knockoffs of these all soak through and leak much more easily - from what I can tell, because they don't have as good a fit. It's not just about brands and sizes, it's also about what company is producing the best quality during the years your baby is in diapers.

I would say you will be safe stocking up on size 2 and 3 regardless of when your baby potty trains or how fast they grow as an infant. I wouldn't recommend getting too much in NB/1/4/5 until you see how big your babies are and how fast they're growing.

  • I wouldn't get any , we got a bunch if newborn and although they won't go bad my girls were in preemies. Also you may find you or they don't like a certain brand.

Thanks ladies that was very helpful! To awnser some of you on where to find coupons. I live iN Florida where we have a grocery store called Publix. They are always running amazing sales and have a great coupon policy, putting out there own store coupons to stack on top of sales. You can also find coupons in your Sunday Paper! once a month P&G (who makes Pampers) puts out coupons in the Sunday paper it's usually the first Sunday of the Month. Huggies are about every 6 weeks & Luvs are really only in store in those Blinkie Machines. You can always check Sundaycouponpreview.com to see if there are any coupon in the coming newspaper that you could use more of( aka buying more papers on that Sunday). Here is the sale going on this week at Publix that I plan on stocking up on. The Sale at Publix this week is $7/2 Huggies Jumbo Boxes $18.29 So buy (2) @ $18.29 -register takes off $7= $29.58 Using (2) $3/1 Huggies Manufactor Coupons From a paper Using (2) $3/1 Huggies Publix Store Coupons(this is called stacking) Use(1) $5/$30 Purchase Coupon Pay $12.58 for 184 Diapers or .06 a diaper

I would recommend checking out Costco if you have one close to you. Even though they say Kirkland, they're actually Huggies.

  • Before my girls were big enough for newborn sized BumGenius cloth diapers we used some Pampers Sensitives and Seventh Generation newborns. I had no complaints about either. My girls are rarely wearing the same size, so it def good to have a variety of sizes on hand day one.

  • DD1 ended up being allergic to almost every diaper out there. We found that Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive were the only thing she could wear without her butt breaking into rash and bleeding. At that time, they only made them to size 2. We were on the hunt again at size 3 and found that the Sam's brand was the only brand that her bottom could handle. We learned a big lesson then. We had lots of diapers given to us that we could not use.

DD2 could find a way to leak out of every diaper made. Pampers were the only kind that work for her.

My SIL swore by Huggies for my nephews but my kids would blow out of them every single wear.

I learned never to stock up on diapers til you see what your kid can wear and won't leak out of.
