I'm still a newcomer here, and I hope this isn't upsetting to anyone. I got a surprise BFP this morning. I say "surprise" because while we did have unprotected sex during my fertile week, I didn't think it was well timed. (My husband had to abstain for 3 days prior to his SA, which coincided with my O date.) I don't even know what to think. We just paid all the upfront costs to the clinic 4 days ago to start the donor's testing! I'd obviously prefer to be able to have a baby the low-tech, low-cost way, but that hasn't worked out for us so far. I can't help but be hopeful, but I'm also realistic. So now I'm worried that I've just screwed up our timeline and that we may lose this donor. I also really liked our donor 's profile and I feel a little sad about the possibility of not getting her genes in the mix if this actually sticks. How weird is that?

I get what you're saying. I am super attached to my donor, and when we talked about doing another cycle and my wife suggested we use a new donor I was crushed! Now, having a bio kid would be different. My thinking, if I was you, I'd go through with the cycle anyhow and freeze the embies for either siblings or else a go-to plan if anything goes wrong (sorry to even suggest that, but we lost ours at 16 weeks and were so happy to have frosties to go to). Congrats!!!!!!

Thanks. Yes, the donor coordinator mentioned the possibility of continuing with the cycle & freezing. We chose an unproven donor, so we're going to have her proceed with the initial couple of tests and we'll evaluate our options in a few weeks. I'll be laying low for a while, but I already feel so invested in the stories developing here. I'll continue to drop in to keep up with everyone and will be rooting for you all.

Congratulations, QOTR! Amazing how things happen sometimes! I hope this pregnancy is the real deal for you and that you don't even need to use the donor. Good luck.
