Two Under 2

If you were really sick in your first pregnancy....

Were you really sick the next time around? We are thinking of having another baby soon but I'm so scared of TTC again bc I had HG and couldn't keep any food down the first 20 weeks. I do hear all pregnancies are different but then I hear if you had it bad the first time, it just get worse each pregnancy. Anyone have it rough in one pregnancy but easier in the next? Also, if you were so sick to the point of having HG the second time, how did you care for your LO? TIA :)

Re: If you were really sick in your first pregnancy....

  • I was so sick the first time, I'm 8weeks now and feeling nauseous a lot but overall really good (in comparison). I am still nursing, I feel like keeping the hormones up the whole time helped, but that's just me trying to justify feeling ok.

  • My two pregnancies were night and day. I was so sick with DD#1 but felt great with DD#2.

  • Thanks! I hope to have a better experience the next time, like you two had. :)
  • I felt like I was much sicker the 2nd time around. First pregnancy I was on zofran around the clock from 6w to 26wks. I still threw up 2-3x a day. Second pregnancy, I needed zofran, reglan and phenergan to control the vomiting but it ended earlier at 20wks instead of 26wks.

  • I was sick both times but I don't think the second was as bad.

With my first, I took zofran the entire time and still threw up throughout my entire pregnancy.

With my second, I started zofran right away and still threw up the first trimester (I know it's disgusting but there were a handful of times I didn't make it to the toilet. Otherwise, DS was playing on the floor and I think he was too young to notice/be bothered). I was still sick throughout the pregnancy, but it was more of the feeling that I just couldn't eat. Nothing sounded good and everything made me want to get sick, without actually eating it, if that makes sense.

  • I was sick both times. I felt the second was worse because I didn't get any relief. I worked FT and then came home and chased around a toddler. I was also up 1-2 times a night at the beginning which was rough with all my morning sickness.

  • I thought I was sick with #1, but in comparison, I shouldn't have complained. Chasing a very energetic 15 month old around at 8 weeks is tough. I am not a puker (thankfully), but have really bad, knock you on your butt nausea. Taking zofran, napping when DS naps, eating only what sounds good helps. Also, I am sending DS to daycare extra so that I can take care of myself and baby#2. Good luck!
  • I was the opposite.  Never had an ounce of sickness with my first, but very sick for several weeks with my second.  Both boys.  You just never know!

  • I have been less nauseous and have thrown up less this time around, but I have been much more exhausted this time.

  • First pregnancy was really bad for me and this one is not. I was throwing up morning noon and night the first time up until 5.5 months and this time I was nauseous at night and only threw up twice in the beginning. So it may depend on the person I guess.
