Baby Names

Boys named Everett

Everett is my grandma's maiden name, and also my brothers middle. We both really like it...but I find myself feeling like it's such a big name for a little baby (if that makes sense).

Any of you that have named their boy Everett, or have opinions on it...how has the name flowed and grown with your child? Used any nicknames? Still love it?

Re: Boys named Everett

  • I grew up with an Everett. They were pretty preppy so that's my association, but I think it's fine. He didn't have a nn that I recall.
      It's a girl!! EDD 2/28/15

  • It was on my list for our son but my husband didn't care for it. I don't know if I would have it on there again though, I don't love it like I used to.

But it's a perfectly nice name. No objections.

  • I like Everett a lot. I know one and he is a great guy! I wouldn't hesitate to use it because you will have NNs that come up as he's growing up!

  • Everett was our boy name, we had a girl. I can 100% see the name growing well with a child into adulthood. I am not a big nickname person so he would have mostly been called Everett and maybe sometimes Rhett.
  • I love the name! If we were having more kids, it would definitely be on our boy list.
  • Love Everett! It would definitely make our short list if we were having another boy.  We'd probably use Rett/Rhett for a nn or just "Ev."  I think when picking a name for a child, it's better to err on it sounding too "big" or "grown up" for a child than picking a name that sounds too childish on an adult.

  • I love Everett and think Its got great nn potential (rett) but also a really strong name for an adult- which let's face it we are for most of our lives ;)     I consider you lucky to have the bonus of it being a family name!

My bf has a family name he wants to use as well, so it would be Everett Dale if we went with this. I think it would be a really nice way to honor both sides of our family.

Appreciating all of the feedback!! :-*

  • I love it! We have friends with a little Everett and when he was a baby they called him Evie, it sounds girly but it wasn't really on him, if that makes sense!

  • I love it, however there is currently a trend towards "Ev" names with both girls and boys (Evelyn, Evangeline, Everett, Everly, Everest, Evie, Ever, etc). I have a friend with a little boy named Everest who shares a daycare class with an Ever and Everly. Something to consider for you, but since it's a family name I say use it anyway. :)

  • Our DS is Everett. No nickname for him. It suits him perfectly. It doesn't seem big on him at all.

  • I like the name, could never use it though as its my last name.
  • It's on my list. I love it but I'm not sure I love it with DDs name- Violet. I wouldn't use a nickname.

  • I have an Everett. When choosing a name, I was more concerned about giving him a man's name as he will be a man for much more of his life than a little boy. We don't use a nn at all.

  • Our son is named Everett. One of the few names DH and I agreed on. We LOVE it. We are actually thinking about #2 and are having a hard finding a name we like as much. It always is well received...whether it be a family name or something they know but don't hear everyday. Before he was born we liked the idea of calling him Rhett but we call him Ev more often than not. It is a good choice IMO.

  • I like the name Everett. I prefer the NN "Ev" though.
  • My son's middle name is Everitt--it is also my grandmother's middle name. I really wanted Everett to be his first name but we realized there were really no nicknames that we liked. In the end I think the middle name is a great way to honor her

  • Our baby is Everett and is fits him perfect (7 months). We thought we would use the nick name Rhett, but my father calls him Super E and we call him Boogie. Maybe when he is older we will use Rhett. I always get compliments on his name!
