I ordered one from Amazon (the company had great reviews: Art of Cure) like 3 weeks ago, and I finally gave up and took it off yesterday. It didn't do a dang thing. He was still drooly, fussy, red cheeked, and had mild fevers while wearing it. I kept it on 24 hours a day too (minus bath times because the directions said soap can degrade the oil or something like that.) I'm really disappointed and may try to get a refund.
I swear by it. Like the pp when we left it off one night it was horrible. There are some fakes out there (plastic) so that may be why they don't work sometimes.

Crap. My H left it on him in the bath the other night!
I'm nervous about leaving it on 24/7 since it's kind of loose around his neck. I"m worried he'll strangle himself somehow, but I have a friend who said once her friend put it on her kid they started STTN...
Can you wrap it around their ankles? Does it have to be the neck? That scares me.
A local baby & kids store sells amber necklaces and amber anklets for babies. I might try the anklet when the time comes for us.
They also sell adult sized amber necklaces, and the store owner told me that several customers swear by them for their own back/neck pain and joint stiffness. I may try one for myself too, and even if it doesn't work, at least I have a new pretty necklace.

Mine was too tight to wrap around his ankle twice but too big to just put it on without looping it at all. I ended up keeping it on his neck. But I sleep in his room with him, he wears a Merlin's magic sleepsuit to bed so he can't roll during the night, and hardly moves around at all in his crib at night. If he was really squirmy and was rolling I probably wouldn't have felt as comfortable. I felt a little weird about it at first, but honestly it is the perfect length so it's not too tight but not loose enough for him to get it caught or play with it. I never saw him fooling with it. Too bad mine's probably plastic though. X(
ETA: I know there are sellers out there that customize the lengths. There was another company online that I was looking at that did that but I forget the name.
To see if it's real amber, "It passes the static electricity test that plastic beads will not. I tried it myself. Rub the necklace on your jeans to create friction and then place a small amount of tissue on a table, like dime size. The amber will pick it up. Plastic beads do not do this as they do not conduct electricity. "
Yeah, this is BS. Plastic will create static electricity. If it transmitted electricity, it wouldn't create a static build up. I don't think this is a valid test method.
I bought one from mamabargains and have seen no difference with or without it. He actually he seems more PO'ed when I wrap it around his ankle.

What does static electricity have to do with anything? The amber necklace also passes the rain test. It can predict when it is raining. Put it outside if it is wet, it's raining.....
I'd just been looking into amber teething necklaces this morning, because my 4-month old is experiencing a ton of teething pain and I'm desperate. Not to discount from those of you who have found that the necklaces work for your LO, but there isn't much evidence behind them: https://scienceornot.net/2012/10/30/amber-necklaces-and-teething-babies/ Quote from article: "The complete lack of any good evidence that amber necklaces relieve teething pain means that there is absolutely no benefit to offset the risk of wearing them."
My DD has been wearing hers almosg everyday for a month now it seems to help her a lot. If she misses a day or two I can tell because she is fussy and more drooly. It's the best $20 I spent.

I bought one for DS and saw no difference. I will probably try again with this one.
A friend of mine says the nurses at her baby class discourage them, as a lot of them seem to come from the area around Chernobyl and unless you can guarantee where they're coming from its a risk. (I've never heard this before)
Our son started teething early, and at 13 months he had all of his teeth. We were going through 3-5 drool bibs a day when I found out about amber teething necklaces. My husband was a big skeptic at first but our pediatrician said it couldn't hurt so we tried it. The difference it made was amazing, but very subtle. It wasn't an "overnight" fix, but over the next couple of months the drooling had stopped, and he had very few fussy times. We forgot to put it back on one night after his bath and didn't realize it until the next day when he was super fussy. We couldn't figure out what it was until my husband realized the necklace wasn't on. After that my HUSBAND made sure he always had it on.
*real vs. fake = there are a few ways to tell if it's real. The easiest test is to heat a needle or safety pin with a match and touch the tip to the amber. Real amber gives off the slightest hint of a piney smell. Fake amber will smell like burnt plastic.
* necklace vs. anklet = Amber is meant to be near the source of the pain so wearing it as a necklace is the best way to go
* safety concern = Amber gives off succinic acid which is the all natural (and naturally occurring in our bodies anyway) pain reliever which means it should be worn 24/7. These necklaces are built to break under any substantial weight, so if, God forbid, the necklace got caught on something it will break to avoid any choking. They are also double knotted between each bead so the beads won't scatter.
* When to wear = should be worn 24/7 except when bathing. Soap isn't good for the amber.
Also - we made sure to keep him distracted when we put it
on him from the very beginning and still distract him now when we put
it back on after baths. He has only tugged on it a couple of times
ever, and when he did we made sure to clap or sing or point to something
to get his mind off of it.
