Why switch to convertible car seat?

Besides your LO no longer meeting height and weight requirements, is there any other reason to switch to convertible car seats instead of the infant seat? I've noticed a lot of people who have switched and wasn't sure if there are things people prefer about convertible seats or anything? Just don't want to be missing something =)

Re: Why switch to convertible car seat?

  • The deal with convertibles is that they are meant to last longer. Infant seats are for convenience only. Once your kid gets to be too heavy to use an Infant Seat like it's supposed to be used then a convertible is good to use because it will last longer. Many of us RF till 2+. Plus the angle is more comfortable for older babies than a full recline in a bucket.

  • We got a convertible car seat so we could have DD RF until 2+ and she hated her carrier. She likes her new car seat much better now that she can look around out the windows.

  • We frequently drive 4 hrs to see my parents and DD would cry almost the whole way. We figured what the heck and installed her convertible at 6 months. She was so much happier. Same thing happened with DD2. I think some are just more comfortable bc of the angle, shape of seat. If your baby is happy then there is no need to change really.

Oh, I think our convertible fits better in the car, but that wasn't a factor for us.

  • We switched at 7mo. DD is a peanut and may still fit in the infant seat now (she's 20mo). Anyhow, the reason we switched is she HATED her infant seat. She screamed nonstop in the car, regardless of how far we were going and rarely fell asleep I the car. Since switching she rarely cries in the car and falls asleep easily on longer trips.

  • Thanks ladies! DD is a peanut, and still enjoys her infant seat. I guess this means I can take my time shopping for a convertible seat =)

Yep. No reason to switch until you want to or she outgrows it. We bought a convertible for my car and moved the infant seat to my husband's, so now we each have a dedicated seat, which is nice. We will buy a second convertible seat once our son outgrows the infant seat.
  • We switched because she hated being in the carrier and the convertible is easier for us.

^^ This is what we did, too. We bought a Diono Radian RXT because we want to ERF. We will most likely buy another when she outgrows her infant seat. GL OP!
  • we switched at 5 months bc she was getting way to heavy to be carrying her in the infant bucket seat.  it is what worked for us during that time.

  • DD is 10months and still in her infant seat. She always loved it so we're not switching to the convertible until she outgrows the bucket. She's too heavy to carry around in the infant seat so I just leave it in the car now and bring DD in and out. She's already 28.5" though so not much time left in the infant seat.

This. And our convertible looks comfier and is cuter in the car ;) LO is a peanut and still fits in the bucket seat, so we used it for vacation recently. It is much easier to drag around when borrowing cars and flying. I also keep it out as a backup at home-we have one vehicle, so if Im home with LO and need to go somewhere we could put it in a friend's car easily.
