STM- recommend...

A potty training book? Or site. LO has been telling us for the past week n half when he goes poo poo n today hes started saying something before he actually goes. So I just was hoping someone had a good recommendation to start reading up on. Thank you!

Re: STM- recommend...

  • I don't mean this to be rude or snarky, but I can always tell when my LO needs to poop too and he will also sign "yes" when he is going, but I do not feel he is even close to be ready to potty train. Aren't there a lot of other indicators for LO being ready, such as sttn and waking up dry?

Again, I really don't mean to sound rude, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around a 14 month old being ready to potty train, and am interested if someone has secret information that I don't know yet :)

Oh I'm sorry. Wasn't trying to say I'm goin to start potty training ASAP! I just haven't read up on it, including the signs. Which is why I'm asking for recommendations. I just thought its time to probably start reading stuff since he runs up and will say poo poo and hit his diaper followed by his lovely pushing. Ha

  • I didn't read a book. I actually read an article and tweaked it a little and boom 3 days later my 27 month old was potty trained. I did this for both boys at the same age -2 years 4 months-. I don't know if you google 3 day if you will find what I did but it basically is 3 says of doing nothing but potty training with them being naked from the waist Dow the first two days and adding underwear and pants day 3. Done and done.

Thank you! I'll definitely research that.
  • Hunter is being PT right now at his school. They just put him in cloth training pants all day. Yes, he's using about 8 pairs of training pants a day and not going "on" the toilet but he's learning to associate the sensation of peeing w pee and poop/pooping. Diapers and pull ups keep them too dry and they don't learn to associate the sensation w the action. Kids used to be PT much earlier before disposables, Like 18mon or so.

I tried every method out there and what finally worked w Caleb was just taking the pull ups and diapers away. It took 4-5 days and he was completely day PT. This happened at 34mon. He was waaaaaaaaaay too old at that point IMO. I'm hoping that Hunter will be PT by 18-24mon bc we are starting so early now. He's already refusing diapers but lets me put his trainers on him

  • Just to add to what @DeniseRN said, pull ups and other training diapers are a huge mistake for most babies and is no different than a diaper, so they are not able to feel wetness. It is also a huge moneymaker for the big companies that make them. Yes, it is possible to potty train by 18 months. Consistency is key. My niece was trained at 18 months and my SIL used good old cotton undies to train her.
