So im newly pregnant for the first time. My question is, is it normal to cramp up on the left side? According to my calendar it says im 5 weeks.... but yesterday  I called my doctor and told her I cramped up and she told me to go to the ER. Thy did a blood test and told me I was  1 to 2 weeks pregnant... that sounds weird to me. But then I went and ha an ultrasound done and we couldn't see a baby. Maybe cause is still early... ? But thy wanted me to see if I had an Ectopic pregnancy. How do you know if you do? My cramp isn't bad

Re: Cramps!

  • By the time you get a + pregnancy test, you are considered 4 weeks pregnant, even though you have literally only been pregnant for about 2 weeks. So 1-2 weeks pregnant would mean 5-6 weeks. If you think you are 5 weeks pregnant then it's normal to not be able to see anything. Cramping is normal in pregnancy, so unless it's constant pain and/or you have some bleeding there's probably nothing to worry about. If there's bleeding or continuous pain call your Doc again.

  • Yeah the ER Said 1 to 2 weeks.. Lol that makes since the whole being 5 to 6. lol but  yeah now were all stressed like I will have an ectopic pregnancy. The doctor really freaked us out by making us go to the ER right away. I Feel fine right now just worried!
  • yeah im not bleeding or anything so that's good:) im just a worrier!
  • Cramping anywhere is normal. I'm also very newly PG, with my second and I'm cramping too. Comes and goes. feels like period cramps. I remember getting these especially at the beginning. its good your doctor takes every concern seriously. But they shouldn't be scaring you with something that probably won't happen. Congrats on your pregnancy.
  • Whitney congrats! I am about 5 weeks as well, just found out two days ago... still kind of in shock. I have had cramps, similar to period cramps the past couple of days randomly throughout the day...but no bleeding or anything. I've heard its pretty normal!
  • I had regular left side cramping from 3w,3d until about 6w. Its normal. My doctor said it was a perfectly healthy bodily reaction as long as its not severe or accompanied by bleeding.
  • Cramping is absolutely normal, especially on the left side.  That's a good sign that everything is normal I would say... I started my cramping at about 5 weeks and then I had a sono done at 6 weeks- we did see a heartbeat but not really much of anything else.  By my 8 week sono, you could see EVERYTHING down to the little eye sockets, fingers, arms... crazy.  I wouldn't stress too much over it honestly. In my opinion, I hate ER's.  Last year I had a miscarriage...went to the ER and they wouldn't even confirm I had one! They made me wait 3 days before I could get into my Dr. and made them tell me!
  • wow! Thank you for all the responses!  I feel great! The ER called and said that my ultrasound was abnormal.. Don't know what that means. But they would send them over to my doctor. Gosh they are stressing me out lol. Sept 16th I have my first prenatal appointment. Cross your fingers!
  • Whitney I am praying for you! My appointment is the 16th also and I have had some scares along the way to! Prayers for you!

I am crampy too, everyone says it's normal. I'm 4-5 wks. I go to my appt tomorrow, and will ask the doc!
  • Dari please let me know what the doc says. But I just got a letter in the mail from the hospital and they said my pelvic ultrasound was abnormal. Whats that mean?

  • Bpatrick: Im praying for you as well . good luck
  • I have had cramps on and off since I found out I was pregnant. When I first found out (last week..) they were very bad, like period cramps. I call my OB they said it was 100% normal (as long as there is no blood). This week they are more dull and almost like stretching pains, like I went to the gym and did a 100 crunches. I will be 5 weeks Monday. Totally normal for you to have them. Hope that helps! :) Good luck!

  • I have cramping too!  Totally normal but definitely feels weird.
Due May 16th with baby #3!
  • Whitney... thank you for posting this.  I am between 5-6 weeks and the same things have been happening to me in terms of cramps and it's such a relief to hear that you and other women at around the same time are having similar symptoms.  I've been getting a bit of queasiness and today was the first day my boobs are sore a bit (which I would never get during my periods so this is such a weird sensation to me!)

I wish you all the best and will check for an update after the 16th.  My prayers are with you.  I have my first appt is the 19th so I'm right behind you!  Good luck, positive thoughts!!!
  • Glad I read this! I have had cramping for about 4 days now, and I get worried everytime I feel them! I keep taking at home tests and running to the bathroom to make sure I'm not bleeding! Our first appointment is not until a week from today, so I'm nervously counting down the days!
