Has anyone else moved while pregnant?

We are thinking about submitting an offer on a house soon and I just found out earlier this week that I'm 3.5 weeks pregnant! :-D If our offer is accepted, we could be moving with me at about 10 weeks along. We're moving about 10 miles away, we have family to help, and can still stay in our current house we're renting if need be, so it shouldn't be too terribly stressful - I don't think... Has anyone else had experience moving while pregnant? If so, what was the experience like, what are some things you would recommend, advice, stories, tips, etc? Thanks!

Re: Has anyone else moved while pregnant?

  • We chose not to move while I was pregnant, but that was because it would have been within weeks of my EDD and I wasn't in any condition to pack up and move.  At your stage, though, I'd go for it.  You're still early enough along to have some energy, will have plenty of time to get your house (and nursery!) in order, and you have your family to help.

  • No big deal.  I didn't move but it didn't stop me.  Just try not to lift heavy things.  I think the rule is no more than 25 pounds.  I just didn't lift things that I had to strain to lift.

  • Do it! Get lots of help for the heavy lifting and then enjoy your new home and pregnancy. Congrats!

  • Dude, you're moving. You aren't picking up a cow or tractor. It's not that hard to avoid heavy lifting.

  • It's not necessarily the heavy lifting that I'm concerned about - I know to avoid that as much as possible. It's more the whole process of moving while pregnant - does it seem to be more stressful/harder as opposed to NOT being pregnant?

  • We moved back in June when I was 6 months pg.  It's not impossible.

  • If you're only going to be around 10 weeks, then it really shouldn't be a big deal. At least you'll be able to get settled in to your new home while you still have the energy to do so. Just avoid the heavy lifting and try to stay relaxed. If anything, it will give you something to do to make the time go by faster until your LO comes along
  • We moved when I was about 4.5 months along. It was NBD to me.
  • I moved 800 miles when I was 9-10 weeks with my 3rd baby, with a 2 and 4 year old, a dog and my husband. We ended up staying in my inlaws 3 bedroom condo (with them, my BIL and my SIL). Then after 5 months we moved into our home, I was 34 weeks.
    Completely doable.

  • @MauiBliss I did have blood clots and have to be on light duty/couch rest a lot but it wasn't moving related.

  • We moved during my twin pregnancy. We actually had to move everything out of our trailer and store it in three different places and live with my parents for two months. Our house did not get ready until the day I had the boys and we didn't move in until two weeks later because we had no power.

It was stressful only because DH and my parents don't get along and the older I get the more different I become from them. Other than that and the moving in two weeks after a csection with newborn twins it wasn't the end of the world.

  • We moved when I was about 24 weeks. I did most of our packing and just avoided physically carrying anything heavy. We had lots of help so that made it as low stress as possible. I'm kind of an organization freak so I like to have almost everything put away the first or second night. I required a lot more help than usual to do this just because of the stairs and getting tired, but I found it was actually a more enjoyable experience with more friends around lending a hand.
  • No one has ever moved while pregnant. Ever.

I did with both pregnancies. I got to sit on my ass while everyone else did all the lifting. If we ever move again, I am getting pregnant.

  • @rjeller32 Love your idea! I may have to consider that as well! Haha!
@ks3pink I couldn't imagine moving while pregnant with twins and also after giving birth to twins - heck just even carrying twins period! My maternal grandmother was a fraternal twin, so I'm slightly anxious of potential double-trouble ;-)
@ILoveBoys Wow, that makes me tired just thinking about that kind of a move! But I bet you feel you can do anything after going through that. :)

Thanks everyone for your input! It makes me feel a lot better about our decision to move while PG. First-timer, 4 weeks, and nervous about everything. :)

  • We just moved. I was 11 wks. My husband is amazing and did most of it himself as I had a threatened miscarriage and was told to "take it easy". I felt guilty not helping, but it was more important that I relax. I don't think it was any more stressful than moving any other time. Do it!
  • I moved around 3 months pregnant & my advice it milk it! I didn't overdo it at all & no one remembers anyway:) we also moved nearby & owned the home we were moving from so it was really stress free & pregnancy had little to do with anything difficult about it in my case! Good luck!!!
