Ideas for feeding LO

I feel like I'm over thinking things. My pedi mentioned at our latest appointment that it's fine to feed DD what we eat at our meals and that might help her get more interested in eating (She's a picky eater)... but I find myself feeling like I "shouldn't" give her certain things because it is something other than a fruit or veggie straight from the produce section. lol  What kind of foods are you giving your LO? Every time I'm about to cook dinner I start feeling like I still need to prepare something separate for her.   (Not that we're eating complete junk, I just feel extra protective of what foods I feed her.)

Re: Ideas for feeding LO

  • I pretty much cook everything from scratch, and rarely use any pre-made/processed food, so I have zero concerns with what I feed LO.

Example, last night was barley with spinach, onions and lamb. tonight it is poached chicken, carrots and noodles.

DS has his moments. Some nights he'll eat a lot, some nights he'll throw everything off the tray.  B/c we do BLW, I don't cater specially for DS.  If he doesn't want to eat, he'll live.

  • If you're so concerned about feeding your food to LO, maybe you should look at your diet?

We give LO everything we eat...
Like I said, it's not that we're eating junk...for example if we're having some type of pasta, if it isn't whole grain pasta I feel like I shouldn't give it to her. i just dont know where to draw the line for some reason! I'm having a hard time switching from giving her cut up pieces of pure fruits and vegetables to now giving her more options since she is so picky.

  • Thanks for the advice! I do need to figure out what my just one or two "things" are that I want to avoid and go from there. Thanks again!
  • I have a hed time with this too because I don't cook and dh is never home. We eat out a lot and it usually on the go so dd can't eat what we eat. Our pedi told us the same thing.

  • My child eats everything we eat, and has since 6 months on. Luckily, she's not picky and loves all food. Last night we ate grilled chicken breast with steamed broccoli, she also had a half a slice of swiss cheese and some mandarin oranges. That is a typical dinner for us.

Tonight, it was (gasp!) a frozen pizza from TJ's with eggplant, bell peppers, squash and zucchini. I also gave her a ton of leftover broccoli and another half of swiss cheese. This is not a typical dinner for us but my DH is OOT and mama's tired.
  • Our LO's eat whatever we do with the exception of a couple things they are allergic to. I'd say for the most part they are very healthy meals. However, I work full-time, DH is gone mon-fri, and I have 2 that are 14 months apart so sometimes we have take out or TV dinners (yes they love Salisbury steak, lol). Sometimes you gotta pick your battles.
