Lower back pain...Physical Therapy or Chiropractor?

I have had lower back pain since giving birth to my daughter over a year ago and it's increasingly getting worse.  I'm at the point that I think I need to see somebody, especially since we'll be trying for number two soon and I don't want to be going into the next pregnancy with this pain.  I'm not sure whether to go to a chiropractor or a physical therapist...I would love to get some advice based on others' experiences.

I am a physical therapist and have colleagues who are women's health specialists who specialize in postpartum rehab.

Many times the hormone relaxin leads to easier low back injury simply because the tissues are looser. Caring for an infant and sometimes poor ergonomics lifting combined with lack of adequate return of abdominal muscles (especially if there is diastasis recti) can make the postpartum mom more susceptible to low back pain. There are many reasons for low back pain but unless it is acute and related to a stiff joint then the research does not indicate chiropractic. If you did have an acute onset of low back pain and nothing in your legs and a stiff joint then a chiropractic manipulation or adjustment would likely lead to a huge improvement in 1 visit.

If there is muscle recruitment issues, they need retraining with physical therapy
